Does anyone else think that lighting in this game is severely....underworked/under appreciated? I know some effort into muzzle flash was put in like 7 builds ago but that seems about it. I put in some feedback on how the night maps are completely illuminated like it was day from ambient sources (got no little response).
Everytime I play a map it's like, "Yep, Dust, where everything is visible because there is no source to the light. There's just light coming from anywhere and everywhere. I'd be amazed to see if they could possibly make it any worse (unless Sun glare becomes even more OP) and an immense list of reasons as to why Dust 514 can't look good will be brought up undoubtedly but I mean....sourceless lighting? Scouts with no shadows to hide in? Night maps as bright as day?
Do any of you ever wonder about that kind of stuff? How the lack of lighting makes everything so bleh. Here we are shooting super heated plasma and laser beams and it just doesn't "pop" like it should, it doesn't visually please as greatly as the weapons convey.

Even though they were frustrating at the time I do miss the real night maps which were pitch black.
Good point about lighting sources Bojo. More shadow filled environments would make for more fun and help those stealthy scout critters.

It's just tiring of playing these boring maps. It's like playing with geometric figures in a desert plane rather then playing on a planet, or at least it looks that way.

In fact, I don't know why they got rid of a lot of the maps they did.
If we had all the maps that have been in the game, along with just different variations and layouts of the maps we have now people wouldn't be frustrated as they are about lack of maps.
CCP also said that Urban environments would be impossible on the ps3 :,( <---Gallente Tears

Some maps are have terrible lighting. Its so dark you can not see a thing.

They got rid of true night maps because everybody complained. Honestly though, people were just mad that only night maps were in circulation for all of 1.4.

Man **** anyone who complained about night maps. I loved those and it's not even like anyone had some kind of advantage (unless you were scannerless). We were all in the same boat.

Speaking of lighting, on the bridge map with the old style bunker things,when you get near it the bunkers switch to this crazy pattern of shadows and light. Has anyone else seen this?

There used to be really dark maps, which I would have classed as a night map, but after 1.7 was deployed; I haven't seen one single night/dark map!
I used to love looking up at the colliding charged particles in the thermosphere.

Exactly, MGS4 had better graphix. (textures were awesome, that mosaic walls in arabia) I think problem with all that thignie is just poor optimization. Nothing less or more, just not much effort.

Good point Bojo. What I've seen is the ground changing colors due to clouds passing by, but there are no clouds passing by. It is clear as night (lol) and the ground shifts color from light to shadow. |

If Dust melts PS3's, Gran Turismo 6, a game which runs at 1080p and 60fps, has one of the best day-time change cycles, weather, 16 cars with 1 mill polygons running in tracks with a gorgeous lightning (One of the most realistic ones), melts 256 ps3's and give birth to 512. |
