In EVE you're allowed to create your own alliance emblem and submit it for review, but that is again only for alliances. I believe it was custom designed by a member of PIE, there is a significant to it that links in the symbol of the empire with PIE's own loyalist ties. Also the Templares have a lore to reflect that....which is pretty cool. Something about a Fire Temple. It allows for thousands of combinations with 3 layers of plenty of emblems, backgrounds, shapes, and colors. But Aye, something like Call of Duty's emblem maker (which has a lot of basic shapes and allows for rotations and more than 3 layers or objects) would be pretty cool. You'd probably see a whole bunch of body parts, though. To answer the OP, that's because red and black are "cool." @ KAGEHOSHI - Alliance emblems are submitted to CCP a year after the alliance is formed. Something besides the default star icon is something that has to be earned with longevity. Also, since they're images that are submitted to CCP and, once approved, put into the game, they can be made using any image software such as photoshop, etc. I contribute nothing.
