Don't use a TAR, use an SCR if that's what you want to play like. A combat rifle or rail rifle would be a better option tbh.
The basic frame is not very good. Your regen is horrible. Although you can tank a lot of fire for a bit, you will take forever to regen to that point - without logi support, single rep will be a pain. I recommend running two repairers and being more careful in your engagements. With a TAR you should be able to hang at range more, so it should fit you being able to engage more often and minimising damage to you.

GrenadeEquipmentCPU: 370/374PG: 73/75I'm still not doing as well as I'd like to in matches. Any advice on improving the fit? Thanks. Change one damage mod with a shield mod. You can tank grenades better and you are harder to kill using anti armor weapons.
Damage mods have a stacking penalty, so that third damage mod gives you around 5% extra damage.
I would switch a single plate for another repper.
Use a standard sidearm so you can fit a better nanohive. Normal hives are bleh, K-2 and above is required.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

Oh yeah, I was gonna max out engineering and electronics after I do core, and then max out my assault rifle skills first. I hope 1.8 will be here before then =P. |

I'd drop the GLU for any other rifle.
I'd also drop a complex dmg mod for a complex extender so you can have some buffer for your armour to rep.
Better yet, drop a plate for a enhanced or complex rep, and leave the dmg mods where they are.
Edit:didn't see you already had 2 reps. Forget the last part.

Yeah, you'll die more...but you could die all 150 times in a skirmish match and you'll still come out ISK-positive. Hell, you could be greedy like me and throw on a Republic remote explosive for the low, low cost of a few hundred ISK per suit.
Seriously...I have a proto suit similar to yours, but I NEVER use it in battle--it's just too damn expensive, and it doesn't really make that big of an impact on survivability (an extra second may spare you a death or two per match, but that's a lot of ISK to sacrifice in return!)

Solid, but I would still advise against the GLU-5. An RS-90 CR, SB-39 RR, GEK-38 AR, etc, would all serve you better. If you want to keep that same playstyle use a scrambler rifle. You might not be able to fit the CRW-04, but it's a powerful weapon even at the standard tier.

I just don't get the shield extender. It's only 66 points. Is there something I'm missing? With the two complex reppers I feel like going for shields is pointless. Grab the +5% damage, right? What don't I get? |

It may not seem like it but 66 HP shields is a lot. It helps to stop your opponents from wearing down your armor so much from engagement to engagement. Which alows time for your repaire to work. You don't equip two repairers because you need a sufficient HP buffer so that you can "stand and deliver" which was what this suit class was designed to do. I never equip more than two DMs on any suit it's a waste of time, not to mention buffer.
Mostly I use a scout, it is just my preferred play style, but now and again I bust out my assault gk.0 (usually when somebody p***es me off). Earlier to day, I was just minding my own buisness in my Dren scout with a std RR (my normal gig), when all of a sudden I get vaporized with no time to react. I look up at the kill feed and see "kaalakiota rail rifle". Well, that's enough to p*** me off. I spawn in with my assault gk.0. Went 32/2. Moral of the story: don't shoot me with proto type weapons.

66 hp is one RR shot or one TAC shot. Idk... I don't want to be a bother, and I don't want you to have to write a novel, but could you explain maybe in a theoretical example. I just don't see the benefit vs the faster ttk on such a small clipped weapon. |

You mean brick tanked? People go through stages, brick tanking is one of them. A lot of of Caldari will brick tank, out of some king of perceived imbalance between shields and armor. Most of them just simply do not know how to play the style shield tanking was designed to achieve (a low HP fast regen type of play). I run pure shield builds on my Caldari Alt and I don't seem to have a problem.

Lol glu is hardest weapon to use. Dmg mods wont help that.
Literaly there is not a harder weapon in this game to use than the glu.

Okay very cool. Are there any viable pure armor tank fits? Not really. I usually run my assault G/1-series with two DMs but at proto I think it is best to stick with the single extender. You've been super helpful, would you mind looking at my skills and giving me some ideas with what I've got going? Dropsuit CommandDropsuit Command III *Gallente Medium Dropsuits V (ouch, that sucks bro, but maybe it'll be made viable in 1.8, who knows) [get in to racial suits ASAP] Dropsuit UpgradesDropsuit Upgrades II *Dropsuit Armor Upgrades II (extra armor per Lv, this is very important) *Armor Plating III (extra armor per mod, also important) Armor Repair Systems V Dropsuit Shield Upgrades II (while not as important as the related armor skill, still very useful Shield Extension III (very important to be able to use complex shield extender - nothing else will do) [skill to Lv 5 ASAP] Dropsuit Core Upgrades IV Dropsuit Electronics IV Dropsuit Engineering IV Nanocircuitry II (very important to be able to use the allotek) [skill to Lv 5 ASAP] WeaponryWeaponry III Explosives I Handheld Weapons Upgrades V Light Weapon Operation IV *Assault Rifle Operation V (right now the AR is out classed by every other assault type weapon, this may change in 1.8) *Assault Rifle Proficiency I (it is very important to have at least Lv 3, but Lv 4 is preferable. Wouldnt recommend skilling Lv 5 until much later on) Assault Rifle Sharpshooter II Sidearm Operation V *Scrambler Pistol V (Lv 5 was probably not the best investment you could have made) *Scrambler Pistol Proficiency IV (that is fine for now. Focus on other stuff) *Scrambler Pistol Ammo Capacity V (Lv 5 was probably not the best investment you could have made) That's all I've got skill wise. I think what my plan is as follows: max out base fitting skills *max out assault rifle fitting skills (light weapons V, assault rifle proficiency V, and assault rifle fitting optimization V) [this is a terrible idea, see reasons above] if (1.8 === released) { *max out ion pistol fitting skills (ion pistol V, pistol proficiency V, and ion pistol fitting optimization V) [again, this is a terrible idea. Also read my analysis of the Ion pistol first, found here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=138138] } else{ cry } *Armor Plates V (should be a priorety over maxing out your weapon's skills) *Gallente Assault V should be a priorety over maxing out your weapon's skills)
Hope that helped you out some.

I'd also drop a complex dmg mod for a complex extender so you can have some buffer for your armour to rep.
Better yet, drop a plate for a enhanced or complex rep, and leave the dmg mods where they are.
Edit:didn't see you already had 2 reps. Forget the last part. So your only suggestion would be to switch the rifle I'm using?
Yepp the gallente rifles are underperforming compared with the other racial rifles

That sidearm is terrible. The best sidearm is the magsec smg or the scrambler. Best DPS and longest range side arms because you know CCP can't balance range.

The duvolle underperforms where?
heres what my fit is for fw:
3x cmplx dmg mods 2x cmplx armor plates 2x enhncd armor reps 1 scrambler pistol M1 locus Duvolle or boundless cr Compact nano hive
Scrambler rifles are greatt, but they require cpu/pg compromise so I never use them.

lower range for no benefit. CR = slightly longer range and more DPS. ACR = longer range for same dps RR = longer range for the same DPS and best hipfire accuracy ARR = longer range for higher DPS and better hipfire (wtf?) AR = same dps, in some cases lower, for worse hipfire accuracy and worse range at no given benefit.
Armor and Shields are not the same!

Ar hip fire lacks?
News to me. Same for ar dps. Definitely didnt notice ar dps loss in cqc.
not huge on rail rifles simply because they are to easy and they ruin players.
You dont want to rely solely on range and dps in this game. It will lower your skill level. Before you know it you will be a full time tank driver, and not by choice.

The new rifles have better hipfire than the AR but longer range. As for CQC the other rifles perform just as well as the AR but also perform exceptionally well in long range.

After stacking, that third dmg mod is not worth the cpu/pg. save some cpu, go shield extender, and use the buffer.e

After looking at my stats I realize how useful 66 points of shields is. I'll probably be picking up Shield Extenders V before Armor Plates V. |
