Hi everyone! This was my original thread a couple of months ago. Here's my new fit:
Gallente Medium Frame gk.0
Light Weapon
- GLU-5 Tactical Assault Rifle
Sidearm Weapon
Highs
- Complex Light Damage Modifier
- Complex Light Damage Modifier
- Complex Light Damage Modifier
Lows
- Complex Armor Repairer
- Enhanced Armor Plates
- Enhanced Armor Plates
- Enhanced Armor Plates
Grenade
Equipment
CPU:370/374 PG:73/75
I'm still not doing as well as I'd like to in matches. Any advice on improving the fit? Thanks. |

Hrm... I was going to go into the assault suit as soon as I maxed out my core skills on this one. Why shouldn't I skill for it? |

Oh yeah, I was gonna max out engineering and electronics after I do core, and then max out my assault rifle skills first. I hope 1.8 will be here before then =P. |

I'd also drop a complex dmg mod for a complex extender so you can have some buffer for your armour to rep.
Better yet, drop a plate for a enhanced or complex rep, and leave the dmg mods where they are.
Edit:didn't see you already had 2 reps. Forget the last part.
So your only suggestion would be to switch the rifle I'm using? |

Yeah, you'll die more...but you could die all 150 times in a skirmish match and you'll still come out ISK-positive. Hell, you could be greedy like me and throw on a Republic remote explosive for the low, low cost of a few hundred ISK per suit.
Seriously...I have a proto suit similar to yours, but I NEVER use it in battle--it's just too damn expensive, and it doesn't really make that big of an impact on survivability (an extra second may spare you a death or two per match, but that's a lot of ISK to sacrifice in return!)
I normally do run a militia fit when I play normal public matches, but when I play faction warfare I do like to use my prototype fittings. |

Solid, but I would still advise against the GLU-5. An RS-90 CR, SB-39 RR, GEK-38 AR, etc, would all serve you better. If you want to keep that same playstyle use a scrambler rifle. You might not be able to fit the CRW-04, but it's a powerful weapon even at the standard tier.
I do have a GEK-38 fit that is the same as the original fit I posted, but a GEK-38 instead of the TAC. (read;)

Edit: I tried to strike a balance between my primary and my sidearm. I use both of them quite often, instead of reloading. |

Maybe someone can post their own Proto Gallente Assault fittings. That would help a lot with the general concepts. Thanks in advance. =) |

That's how I roll.
I just don't get the shield extender. It's only 66 points. Is there something I'm missing? With the two complex reppers I feel like going for shields is pointless. Grab the +5% damage, right? What don't I get? |

There's a thought. I think what my plan is as follows: max out base fitting skills
max out assault rifle fitting skills (light weapons V, assault rifle proficiency V, and assault rifle fitting optimization V)
if (1.8 === released) { max out ion pistol fitting skills (ion pistol V, pistol proficiency V, and ion pistol fitting optimization V)
} else{ cry } Armor Plates V

What is with the shield extenders? I just don't understand at all. |

66 hp is one RR shot or one TAC shot. Idk... I don't want to be a bother, and I don't want you to have to write a novel, but could you explain maybe in a theoretical example. I just don't see the benefit vs the faster ttk on such a small clipped weapon. |

Okay, this might be a fundamental misunderstanding then. So is HP completely king? should I be looking at my HP as my primary resource? |

This might be a good place to ask this. A lot of medium frame fits I have seen are dual tanked. Is this just a feature of the medium suits? |

You mean brick tanked? People go through stages, brick tanking is one of them. A lot of of Caldari will brick tank, out of some king of perceived imbalance between shields and armor. Most of them just simply do not know how to play the style shield tanking was designed to achieve (a low HP fast regen type of play). I run pure shield builds on my Caldari Alt and I don't seem to have a problem.
Okay very cool. Are there any viable pure armor tank fits? |

Okay very cool. Are there any viable pure armor tank fits? Not really. I usually run my assault G/1-series with two DMs but at proto I think it is best to stick with the single extender.
You've been super helpful, would you mind looking at my skills and giving me some ideas with what I've got going?

After looking at my stats I realize how useful 66 points of shields is. I'll probably be picking up Shield Extenders V before Armor Plates V. |
