i recently did a little survey..i squadded witha group of guys that i knew at least one of them would always be on top of the leaderboards..i asked them to run only budget friendly fits so no one was using proto at best a partial adv suit was used no suit used exceeded 40k. now i afked out 20 matches with this squad and each match i compared my
180k isk to the top players isk gained..(total isk won - accrued losses)
out of 20 matches 17 times i made more isk than the top player..he never dies more that 8 times and only ever lost 2 adv suits ina match...
granted he was no regynum he didnt pull ridiculously high scores..but on average he was making 300k-400k and i was making more isk sitting in the mcc with NO LOSSES..
this is why i feel dust is not worth actually playing..its been proven that does your best gets you nothing but more stats and more sp per match neither of which mean anything to a vet like me who is a major rpg junky.
now for me stats mean nothing...sp mean nothing as i have what i want in dust...all that matters is profit margin and sure on the rare occasion where im top of the leader boards with 40 or so kills and 3k wp i may get 700k isk..but when push comes to shove afking provides more isk than playing the game..
now sure ccp can try and remove afking again..maybe create a fix that isnt beaten by a rubber band..but i think they would have better results if they gave those afkers a reason to deploy.. the fact of the matter is pulling the number in mass and comparing playing isk vs afking isk for me afking gives me more...im an average vet with a lot of sp i have good gear that i rarely use and i feel that there is no reason for me to do anything in dust...sure i can support my team with adv tanks..and proto av prof V both forge and swarm..i could spamm logi ..i could spam heavy hmg i could drive in lavs...ima very versatile character and could offer allot to the battlefield but i dont ...because why should i ?
if all that matters to me asa player is profit margin..which tbh i dont think isa wrong mindset to have asa mercenary..then dust has no point...as isk is not a reward you get for trying hard or going all out
ccp needs to reward excellence they need to reward the players who do well over those who do not..until such a distinction is made there is no point to trying in pubs...and until they do my merc will either approach dust with 0 serious intent..or my merc will sit in the mcc with the others who have realized the truth.

steadyhand amarr wrote:iv been screaming this is a problem since closed beta, the isk payouts are simply not rewarding enough, you actuvly punished in all game modes for trying to do your best. if you make a silly STD fit and spend the match ******* around you will likely make a lot more isk. this needs to change.
all contracts should have a fixed isk value if varying amounts you can choose from in a nice big list and only if you win do you get the isk payout.
to ensure players dont end up in a negativity feedback of always losing it should be matched with PvE contracts on reduced payouts so you can grind up isk safely until you have the funds to jump back into the big payout matches.
this way if you want to earn the big say million payout contracts your going to have to bring your prototype gear. and if you bring your proto grear to a low cost match you making a loss so its ya own dam fault.
this encourages the merc mentality everybody can work out a budget and losing actually means something.
people are AFKing beucase that is more effective than playing the game this is where it needs to be fixed you need to make not taking part and having crap scores being punished while allowing players who are not so great thier own place to make isk. like EvE minners
this is a wonderful idea for an issue thats haunted me since i started playing dust im with you stead me and you both have been preaching to ccp about this for to long it needs to be recognized the playerbase is to small for an issue like this to exist..all the issue in dust are magnified by the issue of shoddy payouts

i think a better solution is to remove the desire to afk..which is brought out by broken payouts as steadyhand points out

Short answer: Yes it is wrong you are not a mercenary, you are a player who is intentionally ruining the game for others /thread i dont think im ruining the game for others by not feeding into the imbalance i have been playing this game for 2 years..im sick of payouts being an issue..this is why afking exists to begin with and until ccp fixes payout afking will be an issue..dust give you 0 incentive to do anything. and so yes i now afk because 2 years of talking about this issue and its still there.
besides fixing payouts is something ccp CAN do..and ending afking without fixing payouts is something ccp CANNOT do..as any fix they make will be beatable by a rubber band or some other invention of people who are sick of shoddy payouts

I like this idea a lot. I could see how a system like this would work with with contract payouts that we can possibly select in a list. You could give them timers so that people can join into the match when they are ready, this might possibly get people playing at the correct level? Assuming this sort of idea is fleshed out and thought about properly. i agree it is a marvelous idea..i wasnt actually expecting such awesome feedback off this thread but then it is steadhand and he is amarr
+1 for IWS to stay as cpm
