I've always been a hybrid controller/mouse player while playing infantry. Controller left hand, mouse right hand. Mostly due to the inability to remap a keyboard to acceptable controls. I just returned recently from an extended DUST break and have been having a huge problem with this.....
At random times my aim just goes berserk, it gets stuck moving a direction... up, down, right, left, or a combination of two and I can't stop my gun from moving unless I let go of the mouse and spend 10+ seconds jamming the right control stick random directions. The number of kills I've missed out on and the number of times I've died because I completely lose control of my character is getting ridiculous.
The only thing I can confirm is that it begins happening while holding right-click to aim down my sights. The other factor that causes it to happen, aiming, shooting, directional movement or whatever, I can't reliably replicate. All I know is that if I'm on my heavy with a forge gun this issue will never happen, cause there's no reason to push the right mouse button. It happens the most often while using the laser rifle and a moderate amount with an assault rifle.
Is this a known issue? Has there been a change in mouse compatibility? Are we just plain no longer allowed to use this control scheme?
Any help would be appreciated... thanks!

Hi, thank you for contacting us.
This is a very strange issue that I canGÇÖt reproduce. Did you try to change controller to resolve this issue? More details would help!
Thank you.

I also suffer from this issue. it happen even when you just using mouse, I am not sure the controller is turn on or off. no matter how you move your mouse , it just stuck moving in one direction. I need to use controller and move in the direction which it stuck moving to solve this. this issue just randomly happen, will it be useful that we provide the time when this issue happen, so ccp can check the battle log? |

I am having this issue too, though I always thought it is due to my controller being thrown at the wall at one point by my, proto-bear-stomping try-hard hate-to-lose, wife.
Guess other people who experience this are more decent, so it is a DUST-side thingie? Or all our controllers are in a bad shape.

This happens to me *all the time*, even though I only ever use the DS3 between dying and respawning. It seems to be related to aim assist. After I turned it off my aim will sometimes wander to the left and up a little when I spawn, but it almost always stops immediately. With aim assist on it continues until I pick up the DS3 and counteract the spin for a few seconds, then I get control back.
With aim assist on and using a mouse (I tested it again this weekend) the activation of the AA mechanic can cause your character to start dancing like a ballerina. ie: near the end of a match I snuck up behind some guy, lined up a headshot and started shooting him with my AR. He started running, AA started tracking him for a split second and then he got away because AA started fighting me for control. The "pull" is always up and to the left. The same thing can happen when you spawn in.
Also, I only bought my PS3 early last year and aside from Dust I really don't play games on it much. Basically, my DS3 is in brand-new condition. |

I occasionally use both as well, i have only experienced a large "twitch" when switching from right analog to mouse. This occurres once when first using the mouse and then plays correctly

FWIW I've been having this problem as well. It's been regular but infrequent -- though it does seem to happen at the most inopportune times.
It is but to keep the nerves at strain, to dry one's eyes and laugh at a fall, and baffled, get up and begin again.

I have 3 PS3 controllers, happens with all of them. I use a Logitech M510 mouse but I also tried my wife's "Hello Kitty" mouse, /facepalm, with the same results.
As others have posted, Aim Assist must be it. As I previously posted, Quote:The number of kills I've missed out on and the number of times I've died because I completely lose control of my character is getting ridiculous. The only time this problem starts is when I'm directly aiming at someone.... it must be because my target moved and Aim Assist is freaking out.

this happens to me once or twice a week playing with kbm. if I switch to my secondary weapon it will stop until I switch back to my first weapon. doesnt matter if it's the sidearm or main. mine always turns to the right for some reason. if I die then the problem clears up.

Thankyou dear sir! This has been frustrating me no end! Every now and again I randomly start turning in one direction without even pressing anything and it has got me killed a few times now.
I usually have to turn the DS3 controller on and wiggle the sticks to make this stop. I shall check and turn off the aim assist setting and see if this helps out!
I have also heard others talk about how the KB/M and the DS3 options cross interfering with each other. Thanks again for the heads up! |

Going on a 2nd day and still not having any major problems now that Aim Assist is OFF.
However, I do notice that when I grab the controller to swap equipment/squad orders the right stick doesn't always respond. Seems tied to the issue of using both a mouse and controller. Overall, it's a bit frustrating but not completely game-breaking like the issue I was having before turning aim assist off.
Hopefully this will be my last post on the thread. With any luck CCP can find a fix rapidly. It drove me nuts and I can only imagine how many others are having this issue as well. |

Happens to me all the time, it's random usu. happens when I'm tracking while aiming down the sight, and the reticule will just become stuck moving in a random direction.
only fixes are:
1. Death, most common especially in a firefight 2. Swapping to off-hand weapon, though the problem persists so if I swap back the reticule veers off again 3. Quickly turning on the DS3 and jiggling the analog sticks 4. If DS3 is already on, see options 1&2

I've noticed that this seems to relate to aim assist too. It seems when using kbm that sometime aim assist kicks in though it shouldn't, and then the spinning starts.

Finally, I have reproduced this and reported a bug for this. Turning AA off will solve this issue.
Thank you.

So, AA DOES affect mouse.....?
Is this news for you too? Because I have gotten an earlier response from support that it doesnt. Players have however said the opposite.
Please make a short KB/M guide for your players and clarify all mouse settings!

AA is always on when you have it turned on, even if the controller isn't receiving any input. It does affect the mouse if you're inputs act like a controller. ie: instead of making micro aim adjustments with the mouse, you sidestep a little. If you're not pivoting, AA will grab your crosshairs and put them over the target. Most mouse users though are *always* pivoting by tiny amounts, which stops AA from engaging most of the time.
Except for those times when you've dialed in on a stationary enemy for a perfect, clean kill. Then he moves and triggers your AA :p |

While your issue has been tracked down to being AimAssist, I'll just add that a very similar issue can be seen when using a PS3 controller in a high-RF-noise environment (lots of Wifi, other sources of 2.4GHz RF interference) - the PS3 will receive a command to move, then miss the command to stop moving, resulting in spinning around a lot. In previous versions of DUST514, the client would reset the input, resulting in stutters, when there was a lot of RF noise causing interrupted communication between controller and PS3. In later versions, the client would no longer cause a reset of the character movement, but instead allow it to continue for a while, resulting in spins. (note: I do not know why, but rotation/aim seems more susceptible than movement for some reason).
