No it shouldn't.
It's an element of skill to activate it in the very last second. A game like dust only benefits from elements of skill. |

How about you do it the other way around, the sooner you activate it - the more damage you receive...

What I want to see is damped fall being slow enough that you can be fairly easily shot. If you are not damped then you should be invulnerable.
And if you damp early and hold the thumbstick when you land then you immediately start sprinting. If you damp too late (but before landing) then you have to pause for a second before sprinting.
So you have to choose when to damp. Are you more likely to be shot in the air, or after landing? If in the air, how late can you leave the damp and still avoid going splat? If on the ground, which direction do you sprint in?
Of course, none of this really matters much if you only ever jump out of the MCC which is in your red zone.
But combine it with another idea: drop uplinks become beacons onto which you drop from "high altitude dropships".
Hell yeah!

OMG! Nerf the inertia dampner. It's OP.
Infantry should trip and fall when they get caught on the terrain too. You should drop your gun if shot. Shooting should make you fall back. Dropships shouldn't fly. Tanks shouldn't have treads. LAVs shouldn't bounce and squatting should cause jock itch.
Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!

I'm cool with it as long as it's height based, because falling off the side of a building on only having 5 seconds to activate it could be an issue, and actually has a benefit if you do it at the last second, like making less noise.
That "FWOOP" noise is easy to hear and usually leads to someone finding you. If it's near silent, it would be better for gaining the advantage...of course you'd still be a gatdamn falling star coming down from the sky but it's better than nothing.

... this week's dumbest post award goes to "Activating inerta dampener late should cause damage". Also with this our winner is nominated for this month's dumbest, and I'm sure they'll see victory again there and move on to the Seasonal. |
