Simple idea. Like all of my other idea threads, if I receive positive feedback I'll go and make a feedback thread for it.

Day in and day out we're constantly getting players who want to get into Dust 514 but must face the rigorous climb of SP and the learning curve. While we can only do so much with the learning curve, maybe we can actually help the players obtain SP. We don't want to baby anyone as that's not how mercenaries should be treated but my idea may offer new players a way to actually obtain SP faster without having their hands held through the way.

I propose a change to the Academy.
Every new player has the option of going to the Academy until they reach x amount of SP, instead of being restricted to the Academy until you obtain enough WP. WP don't matter as much as SP does. The more SP you have the better you are at gaining WP and contributing to the team as well as giving you versatility.

Not only that but the academy has double the SP gain and double the SP weekly limit. I know some players may think that's "too easy" but consider this...Unlike in EVE, everyone has to commit to PVP right now. How are newer players supposed to compete with older players when we have such a huge gap? Compare 2 Mil SP to 15 Mil SP? We could at least get them to 5 Mil through the Academy before kicking them out into public matches.

Not only that but in order to prepare mercenaries for the "real world," my idea makes it so that they get less ISK from the academy. This would encourage players to go to Public contracts if they really wanted ISK and face actual competition.

Sorry. Didn't know. I just wanted an ISK incentive for going out to public matches but since we already have one, it doesn't matter.

Bring back Academy skirmishes to mix it with domination, and increase WP needed to graduate. Make it at least 15k or 20k WP.

These are the only changes needed.

I remember it took me about two weeks to graduate from Academy back in June and even then, I only saw basic and advanced gear. Proto only once in a blue moon in a group of three.

At first during my first day I was learning the controls. Still getting used to triangle being crouch and not to switch weapons. So being in Academy for only one match is terrible for learning. This is why we can't have nice things.

I doubt the lower ISK is intentional in academy but merely circumstance. Since everyone is running MLT/STD gear the payout will be naturally lower. Sure Newberries will get more in pubs but that will be due to the team in most part, rather than personal skill.

Although I think you're going in the right direction, the fact remains the Academy ist a stop-gap solution for the lack of a structured introductory tutorial into the world of Dust 514 , which can only be solved by PvE. They wouldn't even need anything fancy - a map with a couple of drones , a turret, some vehicles and an objective or two... then they could throw them into multiplayer academy and a version of what you suggest.

The academy should be 3mil sp and lower graduating at 3mil with the skill tree either locked or a sp refund after graduating. And forced squads like the squad system used to be so new fps players can learn the squad basics.

Academy shouldn't be WP based.. dropping a uplink next to the objective can get you 800 WP's per match alone. * I know i've done it with alts.

SP should be the base line and at least 1.5mil. I think 5mil is too high, at that lvl people will be leaving the Academy at proto lvl.

I think that going from 2x SP in Academy to 1x in regular matches would be a hard pill to swallow.
I think a mode like MLT/STD Only where Academy players and Vets can get together would be a good way to let us help the noobs, shop for new Corp members, and provide a level field for those who want some 1v1 true skill matchups.

@Justicar yeah. I realized that while postings but I didn't mention it because we don't have an estimated time frame of release for PVE.

@Wu Tang. 3 Mil might work considering that they should be heading in the right direction somewhere in all of those SP.

@Slightly Nah. Remember, most needs don't understand skills that well for 1.5 to be the limit. More than likely, they'll have ADV dropsuit and maybe an ADV weapon but even then that's only assuming they aim for drop suits and weapons somewhere.

@DjinnDickno Hmm... Anything above 5 mil might be too much. At that point, it could be overkill. I don't have much to back this up except the idea that they'll close the gap quickly and not meld well into Dust.

@Ryno Nah. It's not that hard of a pill to swallow and even then, players should be getting into public contracts anyway, in my proposed plan, for ISK. Most of them will run STD and MLT anyway,
