at this time I see vehicle mounted scanners to be underpowered. but I feel this can be fixed with 2 new skills and a lot of coding
both these skills will be the next branch of the Vehicle Engineering tree.
1. Rang finding ................. Boost rang of scanners by 25% per lvl
the rang of all levels of scanners is now 80m this is a Vehicle scanner and it has less rang then a stander hand scanner I cant see why the battery in a hand scanner can be better then the power plant and scanner antenna of a vehicle. so at level 5 you will have 180m rang scanner that is still less then one type proto hand scanner.
2. Pinpointing.......................5% bonus to scan precision
the current precision is 35dB this is fine at the basic level but still less then a proto hand scanner at level 5 this bonus will give a 26.25dB scan a bit more then a creodron proto hand but less then the focused scanner.
to make this all on the up and up have Rang finding locked until you hit level 3 Vehicle Engineering and pinpointing locked until level 5 Vehicle Engineering this way I feel the skills will not be so OP to brake the system.

No. Vehicles scan for a significantly longer time than hand scanners. Hand scanners temporarily disable you from defending yourself so you could potentially die,in vehicles they do not. Vehicles scan in a 360 degree radius,hand scanners do not. What you are asking for is an all seeing mobile death machine,solely made for hunting players. Until a viable AV comes out that can wipe out vehicles,this would make OP tanks even more so,AND it WOULD horribly break the game. |

ok lets brake this down
1st off scan time is shorter on hand scanners but the tango's stay lit up for up to 25sec in some cases the vehicles only lite them up as this kinda ghost image and only when it is active
2ed I scan all the time in 360 degree with a hand scanner
3ed I'm not asking for a mobile death machine I am asking to not have to be in death rang with my DS before I can see who is red.
you as most only think of tanks when you think of vehicle combat. me and 2 other corp members the other night worked as a team and killed 3 tanks and that is how it should be no one player with an AV weapon should take out a tank solo with the expion of proto av vs mitt vehicle that should always be a one shot kill.
if you don't think there is an issue with hand scanners having more power then something working off of a vehicle power source then I must ask how is fairy land must be a nice place to live |

When you have a skill boosting something about 100% then something has gone horribly wrong. Also you seem to be only thinking about dropships, not even considering that tankers for example would benefit from that too.

Hand scanners dont take away from your damage or hp potential, tank scanners do. 3. Tanks scans only stay up when enemies are in the area. When the tank rolls away, the targets are no longer visible. 4. Scanners are also great for AV tankers to find infantry killers. 5. I agree, but think these skill ideas would be a nice addition to tanking after everything is better balanced out.
How about we compromise with each other instead of bashing each other senseless? |

This post is so brain damaged, i feel forced to respond... 1.5 seconds is long enough to get shot in the back,or a grenade to the face. 2.Removing your ability to shoot in exchange for scanning is severe damage potential loss,doing 0 damage while scanning AND infantry can kill you easily unlike vehicles. 3.Show me a tanker that doesn't hunt down revealed players and i'll show you an amarr combat rifle. 4.Beat tank spam with tank spam logic. 5.This one makes sense,so i agree.

Vehicle scanning should be superior to infantry scanning but the baseline is kind of skewed to begin with though. Active scanning is pretty rediculous compared to dampening and passive scanning which needs to change first. After that both could have advantages the other won't. Vehicle scanners might be longer ranged but lack the precision of infantry scanning so that neither one is directly better than the other.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

Vehicles should have huge profiles and no passive scanning. They should show up on everyone's tacnet if they get in range. Active scanners should have high CPU/GPU requirements but be really powerful. The idea would be that scanning cripples the vehicle in terms of combat, but makes it into expensive and invaluable support. Something like a 200m scanning range with really high precision or something. Remember that vehicles can't enter structures.
Keep in mind that a tank without modules is actually killable. And this proposal of scanning would require the tank to use module slots to offset the CPU/GPU costs. |
