Go join a corp that would actually need you instead of one that has their already established players.
A lot of people like to get with the current top-corporation but fail to realize that this constantly leads to the fall of those corps.
Look at it like this. There's probably thousands of active corps with only 500 or so actually having enough for a squad. When all of the "good" players go to the top 100 like they always do, a time usually comes when their is either no fighting, due to everyone being friends, or an all out war which leads to one side going inactive(AE vs 0.H. making 0.H. get tired of the game).
It's much better if it's more evened out but *shrugs* most FPS players don't care because they consider Dust 514 to be just like COD or Battlefield in the sense that, it's just a seasonal game to play. They stick to it for a while then move on to something else.
If you're serious about the game, go join a smaller corp and establish yourself with them. PC isn't worth the rush and being that you're 14 in SP, you're nor really the best of pics. Grow with your corp, build with your corp, and then plan your entry into the fray. More than likely, certain corps may split or weaken from their current status due to the same reasons I just stated and that wouldn't help you, as a mercenary, in the long run.
If you're not serious, do whatever the **** you want.

I will have to agree with Roy - AE. does not accept open applications. And he's right, we have established players already. To say you want to join a PC active corp, there's plenty out there. Yes, we are PC active, but to field you over someone whose been here for months, isn't fair to that player nor would it be fair to have you in a corp where you don't PC. In my opinion, join a corp that is PC active and still training to take us out one day.
Every top corporation in the game will fall, there is no 'beating' a MMO. Although at times it feels like it and I understand how TP must have felt when they were on top - it's rather lonely and boring.
Hope this helps you a little bit in deciding another corp, but I will honestly have to say AE. would not be the corporation your looking for nor suit your needs.
Hope to see you in the battlefield.
