Talking in IRC a bit got some things going.
Red line goes away entirely, instead there is now a defensive ring around the battlefield.
Neutral gun towers and mine fields are outlying on the outside of the field. (heck the gun towers could be pretend and they just kill you like they do now)
Minefield is the hard limit and the new redline, but you cannot just hut this place anymore oh no, the gun towers have a locking speed before they start pelting away at you.
At the max range of the guns you're safe but soon as you walk in that area the guns will begin to target the intruders. At the furthest edge it may take up to a minute to lock you. The closer to the towers you get the shorter the time. Aircraft get a bit more leeway over this as well but overall if there is a red line hugger you have more than enough time to get to him.
Because of this redline is now yellow, and they are not separate for either hostiles nor allies. so matter the game mode there is no real safe spot to hang out in. including under the mcc.
To counter this, MCCs will be armed with man cannons and vehicle catapults and they will be given a range as needed by the map (so smaller maps you cannot launch as far) This will allow allies to get into the field quickly and safely and at their own choosing. away from hostiles preventing entire red line situations.
Anyways that's my solution.
I'd like to hear yours.

You are in the red line. You kill a Red dot inside the burn zone. CONCORD shows up in a TITAN and blast the living $hit out of you.

Star Wars Empire At War ground skirmish. I love my RTS. The difference was that you can find a shield generator and destroy it... which would remove the shield dome. But that part of the idea might not work for Dust.... yet |

1.8 years ago i used to think there was a runway atop the MCC, imagine you being shot out the top of the mcc and coming down like MCC missiles and landing right outside the current redline.

We don't need solution to the redline, we need level layouts that give redline players less options. |

Would require all maps to be reworked so the feasibility of this is like 2/10, but:
Redesign maps so that around each team's spawn zone are two mountain ranges that partially circle the zone like layers with multiple pathways crossing the ranges. There is a small canyon between the these two ranges. The red-line is in this canyon.
Snipers can't snipe from the redline as there is a second mountain range blocking their view of the battlefield. To make use of the mountain's height for sniping, they would have to exit the redline and move onto the peak of the outer range.
A redlined team has cover so they can reform or at least wait out their doom without being killed.

Why not simply have a CONCORD weapons systems hardlock that activates module within our implants or within the weapons that prevents mercenaries from using their weapons outside of CONCORD established zones....aka no firing from the redline..... However I have not found a manner to counter act that which makes sense to me.
Perhaps shield bubbles or some kind of dampening field which affects weapon payload, or trajectory in those zones......?

Why are we going to end of the earth to redesign the redline?
What are the issues with the redline? If they are too hard to escape it's poor map design. If we are worried about people shooting out in relative safety, let's deal with that.
How about in you are killed from the redline, say you are sniped, then it shows you on the map where that person was for a short while. If you are rail tanked then the tank is spotted on the map for you for a moment.
This gives you a chance to get revenge on a target and a sniper will have to move all the time or die...same with railgun tanks.
Redline doesn't have too many problems, it's poor map design that makes them too good. No more redlines 30m from objs easily overlooking them, and no more bowl maps. |
