A few minutes ago I decided to self drop [successful] into an enemy Null Canon. After dropping in, I scouted the area. Thanks to Cyrius Li-Moody's tips on defending a point I killed a guy hacked and waited. First red comes [GalLogi] in try's to hack, [the map where A has an upper level and a few feet away has a CRU and the infamous orange pipes] killed him continued my rounds. Second guy comes in [CalAssault] try's to hack gets dropped. [Didn't have remotes] Third time, two Minja's come in, one to hck the other to kill me. Kill the one hacking first and a well cooked grenade for the second. Fourth time, a heavy, couldn't get him the first time [there was an uplink on the upper level] he waits for it to finish before he drives off. He drives off, check for remotes, hack it, wait. He comes back to try to counter hack, I kill him. THEN THEY SEND TWO HEAVIES AND TANK AFTER ME. The best part, A FRIENDLY TANK SHOWS UP AND BLOWS UP THE TANK AND THE ONE HEAVY I DIDN'T KILL. And we won the battle.

Scouts aren't given quick speed and low HP to defend objectives, in my opinion. My mantra is "Not my war." When I scout, my job is to scout the area, kill defending enemies, and hack the objective. From that point on, that objective is "not my war." It is no longer my job, and it falls into the hands of the assaults, logis, and heaves to defend it. If the second I leave it the enemy starts hacking it, that is not my fault because it was not my responsibility, and I'm already onto the next objective. Suits more suited for defending should learn how to do so.
But that is just my view point with scouts.

While it makes sense to hack a location and move on, if it's only one tiny red berry counter hacking, it would be worth it to go back and kill the red berry. You get 50 for the kill, and you increase the chances of getting 100 from a successful hack. But yeah, being a scout is such an adrenaline rush!

Nice one! I do this quite frequently.... I hate hacking an objective and leaving it.... if I wait around and no one is spawning in to defend it then I just resolve myself to try to hold it for as long as I can.
It's not a glorious job, especially behind enemy lines, but every minute counts if you are going for the win....
Nothing feels better than fighting off ever increasing numbers of enemies.... it's nice when you die on that final round, when they've sent 4-6 guys for you, and you start seeing that due to the resource draw on the enemy team your boys are finally hacking some other red objectives elsewhere on the map.
The ONLY thing that makes me feel better than the above is when they just flat-out give up and let you have it.

But that is just my view point with scouts. Actually, I think scouts are ideally suited for point defense of outlier objectives, not because of their speed or low HP but because of their low profiles. It is easy to hide nearby and pick off attacker after attacker who think the point is empty and easy hacking points.
More often than not if you just continuously hack and run (which is sometimes the only real option), the points just get hacked right back or even get rehacked before the hack goes through, which is really quite pointless.
Some of my most enjoyable matches have been those where I've been solo guarding a point on the outside and taken out double figures of enemies before finally being overrun or otherwise being able to hold it for the full match. It's great when I'm running with a decent squad and they can keep the complex at least under contention because we only need one person (me) defending an outside objective to give us the upper hand.

I couldn't agree more. Its not glorious at all. I've never defended a point without squad before, and it was actually MORE fun without a squad. But after a while of defending a point [with squad] they just let us have it. Then they sent half the team and two tanks after us, and we still held them off. But eventually we got overrun like something of a zombie movie.

Scout suit + shotty + REs = defensive ninja. This is entirely how I play as a scout; get to the nearest enclosed objective (that offers a place to hide out of side) and set up shop. Place REs around the node or the CRU (if there's one nearby) and then you wait. And wait. If I'm lucky enough to have a supply depot close, I'll find somewhere to throw down an uplink and nanohive.
Personal best was going 12-0 in a match while defending the same node. Now that the ridiculous margin of error message has (apparently) been removed, it makes this style of gameplay a viable option again.
Life is killing me.

Good stuff. Glad you got some pointers from my video. I do need to update it though as installations/objectives have lost their insane vision but for a scout that isn't nearly a big deal. You just have to be on your toes more. Solo point defense is one of the funnest/exhilarating things in the game. You may not be able to hold that point forever but 30 seconds to a few minutes could mean all the difference in the world in the long run.

It's not going to get your precision low enough to pick up any scout suit and you'll already pick up any non-scout suit not using complex dampeners anyway. You'd get a lot more utility out of a shield or damage mod in that high slot.

The highlight of my scout career (on my alt, still waiting for amarr scout on main) was when I defended the multi-layered under ground point (I think it is usually C) from 5 people and survived with only my ZN-28 nova knives on my standard mini-scout. I felt so badass afterward but that didn't last long.

A Minja would probably prefer using his speed to get to remote places quickly, but a single Gallente Scout easily overwhelms 3 people if they don't use the correct tactics. A G-Scout can stay where an Assault has to yield. |

I've found that E-WAR Gal Scout is perfect for skirmish point defense so long as there is a decent amount of cover. You can tell exactly when enemies are approaching, hide from them by obscuring line of sight, then shotgun/knife/RE them when they move for the hack after seemingly "clearing" the area.
If they send multiple guys, my best bet has always been to wait till they try to multi-hack THEN drop a remote :) |

I once used my LAV to block the door to the point (could be the same one you was on as it was the same crater) and turned on the LAV's active scanner then hopped out (ended up right inside). There was an enemy uplink on a nearby cylinder that was out of my reach so it was obvious I was about to see some action. Every time have came for it I would go upstairs and drop down with meh knives to kill 'em. He wised up pretty quick and started scouting the area for me b4 going for any hacks but I managed to hide until he finally went for it. He eventually took me out but thanks to my LAV he had to take the long way to the point and so he instead hacked the CRU. Another red spawned from it and they both tried to quickly hack my ride to move it. Unfortunately for them I spawned on my upstairs uplink, jumped down and got a double knife kill before hacking the CRU back.
Honestly not as epic as what you went through (lol sounds so epic!) but I did have a good time eating that guy's suits.

Scouts and sentinels are the best defenders and will be even more beastly in 1.8. Have a skilled scout/sentinel on 2 of the points and let the team target the 3rd. Win every time lol.

I foresee Squiddy Ninjas(calamari scoots) will be damnably good at point defense. massive scan range, highs to fit scanning amps to the point of picking up basically anything that's not a cloaked gal scout. they're going to know where and what you are before you even start questioning how this precognitive prick knows where you're going to be to lay down some RE's.
If you hear the words "WORTH IT!" look about, something hilarious just happened.

Big fun doing this lately, but I do it a little differently. The NULLs are deathtraps all the way around. What you want is the ReSups near the NULLs. Leave the NULL alone, flip the ReSup. Then lie in wait for the happy-go-lucky loner who can't lay off and chew him up. Then, relocate and hide again. By the time he figures out: 1. itsatrap! 2. you're relocating. 3. you're pretty well damped and patient. you've already racked up what? Seven unanswered kills? A real poker player leaves at kill 5 and sets up the same show at another NULL. Or just lets the dude flip the ReSup and wander away, only to watch his pretty blue ReSup turn red just as he gets out of range.

I used to do this a lot back when the objectives were omniscient. I don't have the precision range for handling it now, at least not at my skill level. Maybe that will change with cloaks.
Generally speaking, I feel my REs work well for this too. Of course it would help if a blue or two would spawn in to an objective once they see it is becoming a target and I blow the first hacker away. Thats what I do anyways.
Looking for the scout hangout? CCP banished it to the locker room
