This has been an idea that I've had in the back of my mind for quite some time now, and I thought that I'd just see what others think about it. When aerial vehicles are finally introduced it has the potential to also bring about a cool new release in technology for Dust Bunnies, a Lazer Designator. If skilled into this device, the user can pin lazer designate certain areas of interest, and if there is a jet in the air it will get a red square (or circle) pinpointed on the location being targeted. It would also be a good feature if text reading "Target Designated" flashed on the top portion of the screen, similar to how it does when RDVs are bringing in a vehicle. The pilot can then fire his missiles once he is within the lock-on range and basically provide aerial bombardment to the area.
The user who targeted the area will of course reap the same amount of WP as a kill if any are earned, as well as the pilot since they both helped eachother to get the kill.
This is all just a suggestion for future developments when jets are finally introduced, and would be an extremely innovative and interesting component that could give an increased sense of depth in battles, and If CCP is remotely considering making jets function the way they appear to in the concept art screen when loading ambush, then this should be a serious consideration for developers to look at. Thoughts? |

In EVE they have Target Painters so they will possibly be named that.
I like the idea and have thought of using them with mortar, missile teams. |

It wuld be cool if swarm launchers got a damage buff, But could only be used on things that had been target painted.
It would take away the solo nature of earlier swarm launchers and made them a team weapon.

I definitely like the idea and would love to have more vehicle/infantry interaction, but I just thought I'd say that getting the same WP as a kill is a bit much. It would be more reasonable to get 25 (Kill Assist) or 15 (Intel Kill Assist.) Getting the same WP would be horribly abused.
Interesting potential bonuses from Target Painters: - Decreased lock-on times for Painted targets - Increased damage against Painted targets - Increased profile of Painted targets (so that they are more easily scanned - or just scanning them if Painted...) |

Yeah I also agree that if we give them the ability to get a full kill point then it would probably be a little bit overpowered. instead we should give them 25 points like you said so it isn't prone to abuse, and is only used as a side-tool and not a main weapon. |

If not a separate piece of equipment, this could definitely be a useful function of the scan tool. So we can have more variants in equipment in general.
Not like spinning around and lighting them all up but the lock on bonuses requiring having the scan tool actually required to be 'shining' directly on the target.

I kind of like the idea of having it as a scanner, but that would practically eliminate the option of a zoom function completely. And just personally i feel like being able to "mark" targets by pressing the fire button when your reticule is over a zone you want to target would add more depth than for it to simply "shine" and have a mark set on that place somehow.
In my opinion the guy on the ground who is designating the area should see the same lit-up red square that the pilot in the air will see, and this could also create the option for an increased number of target painters, where proto modules can say, designate 2-3 areas at once for the pilot to view. |

I would like something like this for Orbitals...not necessarily as a replacement for the current system, but an alternative. Uses an equipment slot but allows you to designate a target in real time, and essentially "follow" it. I reckon this can help make Orbitals in PC/FW more important because someone who is prepared and brings their designator can significantly improve the effectiveness of their OBs, especially against HAVs. |

It would be cool for us pilots to get designated targets, but I think that CCP should give infantry the ability to spot enemies first just like BF series.
