Artificer Ghost wrote:I much prefer Stealth Tanking and E-War over any other type of tanking, and armor is a close second, so Gallente was the pretty obvious choice to go. Shield Tanking is probably more viable in EVE, but in DUST, if I'm not carrying around 5 Armor Plates, I feel naked.
Always remember on armour tanks to add some resistances. I've seen shield tanks w/o resistance, just ehp, but that's not as common either. There really isn't any stealth tanking, since you can't stealth if anyone is even in the process of locking you, and the stealth ships themselves are wet paper bags compared to other ships in their class.
Ewar tanking, now that I find fun, even though I rarely did it. (Had it done *to* me more often, heh.) ECM, sensor dampening, and turret destabilization are all valid ways to shut down an opponent's dps. Used to be the Amarrs' Arbitrator was a pretty decent T1 cruiser to take out on solo runs; the dps is a bit low, but as long as you didn't come across a migh-meta frigate or a missile ship you were fairly good to go.
The huge difference in tanking strategies btwn the two Eve games is due to, I think, the TTK styles. FPS needs a quicker TTK than Eve Online does. 1v1 frigate fights are commonly finished within 30 secs as I understand it, but more than 10 sec most of the time. That would seem like an eternity in an FPS, I wager.

Right, I understand there's not a lot of Stealth done in EVE (One thing DUST did "sort of" right). And I haven't gotten any resistances so far. My fit is pretty much as follows:
--Algos, Gallente Drone Ship, Destroyer -5x Light Electron Blasters (I was told I should go for Neutron blasters, but they drain my CPU/PG. Something I can't afford to lose on this fit) with Antimatter Charges -1x 1MN Microwarpdrive (Originally, it was an Afterburner, but I wanted to see how powerful a MWD is. Not goin' back) -1x Stasis Webifier I -1x Warp Distrupter I -1x 400mm Armor Plate -1x Drone Damage Amplifier -1x Damage Control Unit
So far it's doing pretty well. My only thing is that I don't have enough PG. When I was trying to fit my Drone Damage Mod, I was missing something like 1 PG, so I waited 20 hours to get that skill up, and then when I tried to fit it, I was like "Oh, I should get a MWD (Another friend suggested I get one because afterburners are sh*t)!" So I put that on, and I'm 1 PG short. Again. #FML
So I pretty much just have my MWD offline, and if I need it again, I turn off my Damage Amplifier to turn on the MWD. I don't mind, really. The MWD drains capacitor like it's on crack.

EVE PvP is mostly about who can control the engagement the best, as the one who loses said control is often the loser. In a situation where both sides are equal strategically, then it's about who has the most DPS.
One time a corp I was in chased a wartag to the Amarr trade hub. He began to taunt us by making short warps to safespots around the station - within sight, but far out of reach. Anytime one of us got close to him, he'd go to another before we were in range. He wasn't completely in control as he couldn't take us head-on, but we couldn't finish him off this way. The FC solved this by having a friend join our fleet, then sneak up in a Spec-Ops Frigate (which can warp while cloaked). Then it was just a matter of warping to our friend. I was in an Interceptor, so I went first to tackle. Although he popped my Crow, the rest of the gang had him already locked down, and the killmail came swiftly after.
At any point, our target could have just warped to the major trade hub, then logged off. He could have also fled to another station, or even to his buddies. He had the control to avoid it altogether. The reason that ship is now scrap metal is because he believed we couldn't touch him in that situation. And in EVE, that assumption is always wrong. At any point, with any tactic, a predator can either catch his prey or become it.
My last comment about EVE in this thread is: EVE demands you be resilient to survive. In order to log off from the day with a good profit, you must also be resourceful.
My thoughts about the DUST comparison? It's been awhile since my PS3 died, so I can't say anything about the current state. However, I will say that I continue to have good hopes for DUST's future years. |

I had this thought just the other day, and I'm not subscribing anymore so I can't put it in Feedback forum, but I think it would have been neat if they had two different cloak types--one which electronically cloaked you (invisible to probes and overviews), and one which made you physically invisible. Would introduce some interesting combat situations.

So far in my Dust experience, the CPU/PG skills are more important in Eve Online than Eve Dust. You'll want to get those, and the +ehp skills to 4 pretty quickly so you can do better fits. (Except your non-tank ehp, that can stop at 3 first.) I notice you don't have any rigs on that ship yet, so look at getting Jury Rigging to 3 and Drone Rigging and Armour Rigging to 1 at least, maybe 3.
To use your web, you're putting yourself pretty close to Warp Scrambler range, or 2-point/double point, w/e one wants to call it. That'll shut down your MWD, and you'll wish you had your AB when you watch your Algos go boom. ;) But don't worry about it, it's all one big paper-rock-scissors game. You could dual-prop (MWD and AB), but then you'll loose either point or web. Or you choose one of the prop mods and settle for its pros & cons.
As you can, move towards meta 4 guns. I'm not sure if you'll want T2 or not, I don't have the T2 hybrid ammos memorized like I do laz0rs. A +pg rig might help with that.
It's nice to hear about your return to Eve Online while I'm not playing it. I wish I had the time I would like to play it.

Yea, I have CPU and PG both at IV. I've looked at rigs, I just don't know how they work. I'm probably going to work more on that after I finish the Epic Arc Missions (SoonTM).

I just mean shields on Amarr/GallenteMinmatar(if armour-tanking.) or armour on Caldari/Minmatar(if shield-tanking.)

Ah. Got it.
Null-Sec, here I come!
I actually do have a friend that was like "I might re-activate my account", and I was all like "We could camp gates!" and he was all like "Ok. But I'm going to kill you at least once." so then I bought a Velator.

Then don't be alone.. There are thousands of corps out there looking for players. If you'll provide me with your callsign though, for a small deposit I can...
Eve University is a good one for beginners.. I hear they even pay for skillbooks. |

Hm. I dunno about E-Uni now. I hear different things all the time.
"Join E-Uni!"
"No, E-Uni is fully of bad and when you join you'll forever be taught to be bad, join RvB"
"Wait, what? RvB is full of people that just mess around. They don't teach PvP, and if they do, it's not good"

There are enough good and bad things said about both that I think they are worthwhile to try, at least. Nothing done there can't be undone. Advice can be asked for here, too. I have other suggestions for good starting places depending on your EveO goals, but it takes a certain kind of person, not the kind usually attracted to Eve.
Also, joining a FW corporation will immediately give you allies, blues at least if not fleetmates.

Well, I got my first killmail the other day. *success*
I would join a FW corporation, but I don't know any. Turyalon is one, right? Or however you spell that. IIRC, it does G-FW.
I also skilled up into the Thorax, and I'm about to skill up for Caldari Destroyers, because I want to have a sniping ship and it looks like the Cormorant is the one I should go for. I'll need a tackler if I want to snipe, but I can still get a longer-range Disruptor and stay at ~20km.

Sometimes, with the right skill(player skills), you can tease an opponent with possible victory and keep them in the fight long enough without a point that you can suddenly apply more dps (over heat guns, or maybe not be firing all the guns at first, or change ammo or range....) and end up killing them before they realize they have been had. I've seen videos of others doing it, I am not one of those people.
Got a link to the km, or do want to protect your anominity?

Both, actually.
It wasn't a very good killmail. He was in a T1 frigate and I was bored. Destroyed the frigate, looted it, and as he was trying to do whatever he was trying to do (Probably approach the nearest gate) I podded him.

Alrighty, got my Thorax! It's big, it's deadly! It actually looks like a luxury cruiser! Sort of. If anything it looks like what a ship in a sci-fi movie usually looks like.
Aaanyways, because I haven't any idea how to fit it just yet, here's my lolNoob fit.
x5 Neutron Blasters (Not yet, but they're waiting in market) 1x 1MN Afterburner 1x Warp Disruptor 1x Stasis Webifier 1x Thermal Shield Resistance (Because I couldn't get anything else in there) 2x 400mm Armor Plates 1x Damage Control Unit 1x Amor Repairer 1x Drone Damage Amp
Yay for noob fits! So far it works. The only problem I had was on a fairly tough SoE mission, where the enemies all ran glass cannons, and it came in 3 waves, and even then all I had to do was go out to 20km and let my drones do the work as I repaired myself (And replenished cap. I left my MWD on for some reason)...
