I love rail rifles, but I love seeing everyone use a wide variety of weapons, and with the rail rifle now in existence, It seems to be the most abused weapon. Sure the gun is great, but now I see pretty much every heavy carrying one around. What ever happened to the Assault rifles, the mass drives, the HMG's, the laser rifles, hell, I even miss the scrambler rifle. I don't expect a nerf on the rail rifle, but for people to take some consideration to use those good ol' neglected guns you now hung above that fireplace in your merc waiting room thing. Btw, the rail rifle sounds like a pea shooter.

The rail rifle is crippling in the short range. Anyone with anything short of a sniper rifle is going to tear me up at close range. Maybe I'm worse at it then other people because keyboard users don't get autoaim, but I thought it was fun, but balanced. It reminds me of the TAR, but it's less abusable.
Honestly, to some degree, it might be that "newness" factor. Everyone wants to play with new things. And Caldari things have always been historically popular.

I see all kinds of rifles, pretty even split actually. Probably 80% what I see is the 4 rifles, 10% HMGs, 10% every other weapon.
Rail isn't OP when considered among the rifles...especially the CR. ScR is difficult but deadly and AR is still okay just not the beast it once was.
I do miss variety. LRs got screwed, shotguns are outclassed by rifles, forges aren't useful outside swarming a tank or sniping, PLcs never had their day, MD just doesn't have the range, and more I probably forgot. |

As far as I'm aware no other riffle can out DPS my SR in its optimal range, so I'm still set 1v1.

RR are fine but I still believe the aRR mag capacity needs a small bump up to 48 or 54 rounds because of all the kick. |

The RR works great at cqc thanks to the tight hipfire coupled with good damage. The same is basicly true for the SCR although the SCR is less forgiiving in terms of missed shots... |

I can tear people with the basic RR in cqc, I don't use it because Caldari tech is not my flavor. |

Does this game still follow the rule that says laser weapons do more damage to shield, less to armor? If so, I haven't noticed.

It depends.
Am I killing you with it? Good.
Are you killing me with it? Bad.
That's about all the thought that some of the player base and CCP seem to put into balancing weapons in Dust. |

My question is am in cqc my weapon is made for cqc, 70% of the time I go against a weapon not made for cqc (RR and ScR) and I die. That is a problem, unless I suck... |

Problem is most maps encourage combat from distances.. there are few areas that will give you close quarter combat.

It is virtually inexistent. It can't even keep my aim on target for a single shot. I think it actually needs some buffing, as aiming feels like it was before AA was introduced.

On most maps there is an outpost with at least 2 capture points inside it. That means focusing on CQC areas gives you control of about 50% of all capture points. I think there's good balance in the distribution of CQC and open areas.
Regarding the RR: I've been playing as a Scout with an AR lately and I'm not afraid of RRs. By the time the RR has charged up I've already put down 200 points of damage, so the RR operator is at a serious disadvantage there. Just don't let the guy with the RR get the drop on you. |

i saw massive amounts of rr on day1.. then cr on day2.
now theres to many proto of both.
the railrifle obliterates heavy suits too fast..at all ranges... and so does the burst version of the combat rifle. assault cr is basically an smg..
my only chance at survival from both guns is to always stick inside cover.. but thats usually where nade spam happens anyways.. |

The RR is too good at CQC for a longer distance rifle. The hip fire needs to be corrected.

For those of us who are not scouts, the RR is a challenge to out manoeuvre when the can get the drop on you from 80m away... Their effective range needs to be cut by 10m.

i dont know about the rest of the rifles but reason why you see less assault rifles is becuase it keeps getting nerfed up its had 4 nerfs and people still want it nerved up more |
