surely infantry will get a skill respec?
i'll be damned if after all of THESE changes, infantry STILL don't get a respec.
anyway, from what i'm hearing from my squad right now, they are NOT liking these new changes. all i know is that i'm expecting a respec from this.

If CCP reduces requirements, CCP will return the difference in SP to you (as they always do). But they should not refund/reset the skills themselves.

Why does he not deserve a respec for that suit?

So unless you are offering respecs every month, your aren't enabling FoTM usage beyond what would already occur even without a respec.
Additionally, not EVERY single person who wants a respec is wishing for one simply for the ability to skill into a FoTM . Punishing an entire playerbase for the actions of a few is not the way to handle things.

That was necessitated because the rearrangement of skills in the tree actually broke the existing chain of allocated skills. And I think they went a bit overboard with it as it is.

So did I. I was fully aware (as all intelligent players should be) that the game is subject to change. And I'm not entitled to a do-over every time it does. Every time a weapon is nerfed, we don't get a refund either. Even though flaylock pistols and swarm launchers are now both a comedic joke.
The game will always be changing. You may want to revisit an old suit later, or you might not, but you used those skill points, and every time we respec, we reward players for doing the fit-of-the-month mob behavior which makes this game terrible to play. FOTM is a hard behavior to kill, but without respecs, it is, at least, appropriately costly.

You realize people are only asking for a respec because of a) racial dropsuits finally getting added and b) suit bonuses getting dramatically changed.
Maybe we'll have a small FOTM problem at the start, but that's something you just have to deal with. And from here, I mean, it doesn't really look like they can add any more core suits if they have all the racial light, mediums, and heavies and I doubt CCP is going to completely overall the suit bonuses again so from that perspective there would never have to be another respec again. But you can't just say "No respecs because FOTM" even if the respec is absolutely 100% warranted.

Your examples are bad. If a weapon gets nerfed, it is still serves the same function, just not as well. The flaylock still has high direct damage and some splash damage, just not as much. It still serves the same role as it did before. Meanwhile, the Minmatar logistics role used to be extra fast hacking, but now it's role is repair tool efficiency. That is completely different.
Now if the Minmatar Logistics skill bonus got changed to 2% hacking speed per level instead of 5% hacking speed per level, then your analogy would be appropriate and you would be right that a respec is not warranted. However, that is not the case.

There is no "need" reason for a respec. Nobody has that need. Not one person.
You can want one, because you made bad choices. You can want one, because CCP nerfed or otherwise changed the fit you liked, but you certainly don't need one. You see, you get skill points for playing the game, and you spend those on skills you want.

I wanted a swarm launcher that could kill tanks, then the changes made it unable to kill tanks anymore. Why wasn't there a full respec for 1.7? I wanted a flaylock pistol which could kill people faster than a mass driver, and then the changes made it unable to kill people faster than a mass driver anymore. Why wasn't there a full respec in 1.3?
The reality is: These things will ALWAYS happen. This will never stop happening. And the SP system is modeled after a system that doesn't run on respecs. We can't have a respec every month when someone cries about wanting one. This isn't a WoW talent tree we're talking about here. Respecs break the SP mechanic.

The difference is that the change he is talking about is a complete removal of the role the suit was initially specced into to play, while the changes you are talking about merely reduced the effectiveness of that role.

The role of suit is a logi suit. it's designed to repair and revive people. It still does that. There was a bonus that has been changed, some might call that a nerf in some cases, though actually I'd say it got a pretty great role buff.

i like all the logi changes... mostly because i do them all.. now i get 1 suit for each role, uplink spammer, nano spammer, repair spammer, active scan spammer...ok maybe that ones doesn't work so well but for the most part im happy.
although i would welcome a respec if not just to get at my wasted av sp and all my assault sp which is all wasted at the moment

I specced into Amarr Assault for Heat direction on laser rifles once Uprising came out,. Lasers were crap, I went Scr, still got aomething out of that bonus, LR got a minor buff, worked finally again, happy me. Other racial suits come out making LR ovious again.
Heat reduction gets taken away from the suit, killing my whole intention why I skilled into the suit, RoF bonus won't help for either SCR nor LR.
I highly hope they bring a respec with this changes so I can spec out of all the useless Amarr stuff once those changes apply.
Only thing which still has a small appeal to me might be the Amarr logi bonus, but thinking about how good Uplinks already are I doubt I'll pick that suit up again.
Btw: Gallnte Logi will make even the highly dedicated stealth scouts obvious.
If CCP won't bring a respec with this patch I see a very big group of players leaving....

Highly unlikely that there will be a respec for 1.8. According to the dev blog there are going to be sweeping skill tree changes, something about making stuff cheaper on the low end and SP sinks on the high but not until after 1.8, possibly after all suits have been added in that seems like the most likely time for a respec. |
