Everyone seems confused by the Caldari scout bonus when it seems pretty obvious how cloak will work and how that bonus will be useful with it. I could be wrong but here's my take: GÇóCloaks are equipment. GÇóYou activate the cloak and a meter drains, possibly draining with time cloaked, and from some counter based around shots you fire, most definitely the latter at least, but possibly both. GÇóCloak regenerates.
Now given the Caldari bonus, they assumedly can fire more shots without losing their cloak. This mechanic would be most useful if cloak drain depends only on firing, as a Caldari scout sniper could potentially remain cloaked indefinitely if one shot doesn't disrupt cloak fully. Very useful to stay hidden from great distance but will likely have very limited low slots and will be easy to find if you're close enough to scan.
Under this system Amarr would be suited to running around cloaked, firing to just under the cloak-break threshold and waiting for their rapid cloak recharge (and laser weapon cool down) to complete before firing again. Could be useful given Amarr weapons being particularly based around a very fine 'scale' if you will of damage they fire (you choose a steady stream of fire or a burst damage of varying charge)
Minmatar scouts could be useful if nova knives and melee have a smaller diminishing effect on cloak, could feasibly remain cloaked while attacking in close range for extended periods, albeit with limited effectiveness given the use of nova knives.
Gallente scouts are suited to shotgun or their racial AR combat with their massive passive scans while evading the scans that will likely be the bane of every other scout, but will have to rely on actual evasion more than their cloaks given these weapons are likely candidates for high cloak drain.
To me, if this is indeed similar to the way these changes will actually play out, this could be a great change if one important thing happens; a second eq slot for scouts. For a minimal sacrifice of suit resources you would hopefully be able to effectively add cloaks to your current fit. Scouts don't need to shift to cloaked combat as a new role, they need cloaks to compete in their current role. This being said, I worry cloaked logia will be all-too effective, but that remains to be seen. |
