We have some of this, ragdolls and the grunts we make when hit for example, but there is always room for improvements right?
So shalt we gather ideas how to do so, to start off:
The 'heartbeat' feature that played as you died back in chrome has been removed, I rather enjoyed it, the feeling of having to hear your heart slowly stop beating as you awaited salvation, or death, (most likely death) over and over again gave a sense of going through death and as you heard it more and more you slowly got used to hearing it dismissing your own demise as nothing but a nucinse to go through before being redeployed, something an immortal would surly feel.

I find weather to be quite immersive. For instance having a bit of rain then some sun during a long skirmish and then actual mud with a slightly viscous surface in the areas on the map that got rained on. The volcanic ash implemented recently on a few maps is ok but where is the volcano and why is there no layer of ash that we are running through and disturbing? Snow would be cool. As would trees. Yes I said trees. This may be a warzone but there would at the very least be blasted remnants of trees and other foliage if grass can survive if not healthy or even unhealthy looking trees.

Advanced movement options. Vaulting, sliding, tackling (sprinting melee), holding on to vehicles, etc.
Full immersion would be the ability to move like in Mirror's Edge, but that would kinda break the game.
Also, even more complex vehicle controls and a reload system that discards unused ammo. |

Acceleration on all movement base and sprinting basicly so we are not going full speed all the time but need to gain momentum.
Some sort off effect on vision when bullets are being fired in your direction or close by you higher caliber rounds have more effect perhaps even making them flinch, a better noise for bullets impacting nearby.
Getting hit causes the character to flinch and slow movement the bigger the round the slower you get on a really high end it would be nice to see the ability to be knocked down to a side by a shell or the likes and grunt when hit(like they do)
Effects from close proximity to explosions short term hearing loss with a buzzing sound some effect on vision say dirt kicked up from blast onto the screen, pushed to one side by blast which would in effect stagger the character.
Loud harsh sounds for most weapons unless suppressed think how the rail rifle sounds only that harsh for everything not same noise just with that in mind.
Weapon jamming where it refuses to fire until fixed and misfire in cases of launcher systems could be interesting.
Screen sway while moving particularly while sprinting i think this may already happen a bit
Weather as stated already rain, snow, sandstorms, ash/wreckage like in the caldari prime event
More destructive vehicle deaths
First person veiw of entering vehicles of all types.
Make the HUD look like the veiw from inside a helmet were ment to be looking a screen in side the helmats right?
Near death effects heavy breathing, damaged HUD, red flashing warning lights on peripheral of the helmat veiw, possible groaning for a while after being hit badly until you hear a clunk or injection that calms the merc.
In faction Warefare perhaps some radio chatter form the NPC factions that your fighting for the hotter the planet the more radio chatter (probably would be a annoyance after a while but could be a laugh)
An announcement that there is a hostile or friendly ship or ships in orbit.
Some maps could have a invasion skybox with large orbit dropships descending into streams of AA and fire being returned from orbit, this could be a hot zone thing in FW make it feel bigger basicly.
MCC could go down during the match instead of at end screen, instead of it blowing up in the air it could have a longer death where it has a few explosions and then falls to the ground as a wreckage in 1 or more parts could split in 2 like.
Have CRUs build the clones inside of them active thats when we take control and then jettison them instead of just appearing.
All appearing out of nowhere spawns need to go we need to either spawn in a place that makes sense be it dropping from orbit or inside a base with some sort of Clone activation unit that woke us up.
To list a few cant think of anything else off the top of my head, i fear this may be a little off on a tangent from immersion but i think most of it could be classed as better for immersion to make you feel like a person in the universe of new eden not a floating gun trying to rack up kills. |

This is perfect for removing the last players from the game. As a rule of thumb, an FPS should never take away control from a player. Acceleration of movement isn't all that realistic on infantry, in the first place, but it also removes sidestepping, causing firefights to be dumbed down.
Flinching and knockdown basically prevent you from reacting exactly when you most need to react. It's bad design just like having the screen turn sepia when you get low health.
Jamming would only make sense if it was consistent. Like, a weapon that jams if you try to fire in bursts or something. Random jamming would just cause the hardcore players to give you the finger.

Those are quite nice, though. But the low-health HUD effects shouldn't be overdone.

That would actually be a way to make tanks weaker. The animation would mean that a sniper would have more time to kill you while entering, especially because the movements would be consistent. So if you are spotted calling in a vehicle, you will be defenseless during the animation, with your head always following the same trajectory. I imagine headshotting tankers would be a new fun thing to do for snipers.

Do you know how extreme this would be in terms of development ressources needed? Not to mention that we already have matches where the announcer constantly cycles through hacking announcements. Even more chatter would make you go insane.

Orbital drop would be awesome. Especially if it means that others can man turrets and try to shoot you out of the sky. It could be like Section 8, where you can drop slowly and be vulnerable, but gain additional control. Or you drop quickly and are less vulnerable and can also smash someone's head if they don't notice that you are on collision course. |

I hope the ragdoll effects get fixed sure it's funny when a guy backflips when you shoot him in the face but come on he must be wearing a couple hundred pound suit when he dies he should just drop even if you use HE on him he shouldn't go more then 2 feet in the air ( .6 meters in the air)
I would also like some weather that makes it harder to tell friend and foe (FW would get extremely dangerous) Blinding snow, rainstorms, fog, etc... anything that could disrupt the electronics and make it harder to discern enemies and allies
I would like flux grenades to do more then just deactivate my shields and nearby equipment maybe disrupt my HUD (even disabling it completely for a few moments) and maybe make it harder to aim for a few moments (due to the fact that we have "targeting computers" to help us aim)
"and when they catch you, they will kill you... ...but first they must catch you" motto of the scouts

I'd like to be able to see my feet, shadow, and my hands when climbing up a ladder.
Also, studdering when you Fall froma high place, and if you forget to activate inertia dampners and Fall+survive, you'd have to get up manually. |

Animation for entering vehicles:
Dropships - you run, strap in and fly off, if there's a gun, you press square and animation comes were you mount the gun. If the pilot jumps out the drop ship in mid air, he is rocket propelled out from his seat, all other men, if leaving vehicle in mid air is seen throwing them self out of the vehicles..
This would be cool even in 1st person.
LAV: - They have no doors.. it wouldnt take long for your man to sit in, or for him to get up and man the gun.
HAV: - I've always imagined them a little like spaceships of the capsuleers in eve. theres not enough room in them for you to walk around. so you simply sit in a "Coffin" that is connected to your suit, so you control the tank through the mind. so animation would be: Tank opening the front layor of armor, man crawls up and sits down the form fit chair, watch as the armor closes down on him and the HUD of the tank goes online. If a co-gunner is collected along the way, you will see him jump up on the tank, and another spot opens up and he sits down (Its possible to do while it drives)
the man can of course be shot at while getting in.
--
This would give Imersion i think. Insted of this horrible magical being a man, being a vehicle thing all games are running with.
Help me make Faction Warfare feel like conquering a planet!
