It's a stupid argument. Star Wars had 2 fantastic movies, 1 pretty decent movie and then a truckload of crap. They're not really comparable unless you want to include expanded universe and I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole.

Star Wars: Space Opera. Fantasy set in space a long time ago with magic powers. The Jedi are both emotionally and mathematically suspect. For instance if one is bringing balance to the force and there is 10,000 Jedi on one side and 2 on the other then balance would either be 10k on both or 2. If the Jedi were mathematically inclined they could have figured out that the chosen one would be doing either a lot of humping or pruning. Turns out Annie did a bit of both.
Star Trek: Space Science Fiction of our near future. Assumes that the Fermi Paradox exists because we are carefully shielded from external interference. It emphasizes exploration, science, relationships, learning and that smart behavior (not just logical) can adapt and overcome. That is important if you want to be a good dust player.
Star Trek is a possibility. Star Wars is just fun.
Many of they things seen in Star Trek have come to fruition. Star Wars loses hands down until my hands can hold a light saber.

I didn't think DS9 was crap. I thought the story arcs were a welcome change to otherwise stale monster of the week plotlines. Although it loses a lot of points for all the pah wraith fire cave nonsense. It should have ended with the end of the dominion war.
Setting it on a space station would probably turn a lot of people off but after having watched the entire series on netflix I realized that it actually was a really great show and might even be better than TNG mainly because I liked how the war brought out the dark side of Starfleet not seen otherwise.
It's not that I think you have to like it or you're an idiot I just think the show is vastly underrated among the series of Trek. Even Enterprise gets better when watched quickly and I place Voyager firmly at the bottom of the pile.

Star Wars has simplistic unoriginal plot.
Star Trek has a complete lack of style, its aesthetically lacking.
I also dislike standalone episodes, and prefer an overarching plot, so I guess Star Wars has the edge on that.
