Aspects of Closed Beta I miss
- Old Manus Peak map, minus the sniper mountain - Skirmish 1.0 - Crater Lake map (skirmish 1.0) - Bunker style Large Installations - Small turret installations - Camera Sights on guns - Non-lock-on Swarm Launchers (minus lack of friendly fire) - Racially Themed Dropsuits - HUD Bobbing - Lots of snow - Colored suits paid for with Aurum - Null cannons that can be hacked from any direction - Where-ever the hell the 'Web Generator' went - The kickass warbarge time
Plus a few other things I probably can't remember right now...

Dude I remember when Advanced/Proto gear scaled in HP. So a Proto had more base HP than an Advanced on top of having more slots. Then they nerfed that, which was a good thing and it actually worked because there weren't any suit bonuses at the time. The way you fit your suit actually determined your playstyle.
Now we have these suit bonuses, which - again - isn't necessarily a bad thing besides the fact that a lot of them don't complement the suit (shield recharge on gallente assault) or outright contradict it's intended playstyle (passive armor repair on caldari logi).
That and slower strafe speeds - which I know a lot of people will argue is a bad thing but my thinking is: If you don't want a twitch shooter, why have ridiculously fast strafe dancing?

I'm so jealous of those racially colored dropsuits and the red scout suit. It still makes me a little upset that at one time the BPO's used to be different colored but now they're about the same as the regular suit colors. CCP is sitting on a gold mine if they can get color schemes for sale on the market for Aurum. Please, bring back vanity colors. |

Hard-coded to the Skirmish 1.0 game-mode, to my knowledge. Albeit it would have been amazing what with interchangeable (large) sockets, something we don't see in Ashland, Manus Peak and... well, honestly we have more maps without interchangeable large sockets than maps that do...

Made a lot more sense than current skirmish mechanics. Two MCCs shooting at one another for reasons, everyone races to get these conveniently placed missile launchers left there by whatever third-party entity owned the district before these two corporations came along.
Or, worse yet, defender having to get the null cannons anyway despite owning the district. That's a fun one.

Back when nova knives were built-in standard melee weapons for every suit. When skirmish matches never had clone limits. When lag was soooooo problematic that you often see players warping from place to place. When dropships became aerial bumper cars. When free LAVs and HAVs and DSs were rampant. Graphics and shadows were so poorly rendered that hiding was pointless. When we never had a Minmatar Scout suit nor an Amarrian assault. When Bad Furry was tanking sniping while blasting his music on comms going 60-0 in every match.
OK, CCP. When are knives finally going to be improved?

When MCCs had engines ! - map progression, that feeling of a battle evolving, you wouldn't believe (unless you were there) how simply looking up in the sky to see how much time you had left rather than looking at some arbitrary numbers in the corner made you feel more involved, more immersed in the flow of the battle. When AV/vehicles were last properly balanced (E3 build) ie. proto AV could solo adv vehicles (and I don't mean just HAVs) but it was a challange. RESTOCKING ! not this 'bulk buying' we have now !
Most of all I miss the sense of community ... while it was still invite only there was a spirit of playing for the bettering of the game, where as ever since the gates were opened (far too early I might add), it's devolved into exploiting every imbalance or loophole and keeping it quiet as long as you can so your little numbers on the leaderboard are better than someone else's :-/ |

Oh my **** the restocking
I ***** about that everytime I open up the fitting screen lately. Having to restock each and every little thing one by one just to get a consistent fitting because I use those modules on multiple suits? Wonder who's gloriously dumb idea it was to remove the "Restock Entire Fitting to 'x'" option.

You clearly don't remember closed beta like I do. Player since May 2012 here, from when you couldn't see through the SMG sites at all (it was a white screen totally opaque), when you could stand 5 meters from a target, neither of you moving and neither could kill each other or scratch shields due to no hit detection, etc.
It was much worse, and the whippersnappers here don't know how far the game has come. The other vets, like Aeon, only remember the positive, and not the negative.
What will be your legacy? Will you rise, or will you fall?

Oh, I remember the negatives full and well. Invincible Marauders, unkillable scouts, Heavies with no mass, swarm launchers that would blow the bejeezus out of everything -but- the user, that one missile turret at the top of the Biomass outpost that would wreck ass on everything because missiles had infinite range and the only way to hack it was to get a dropship up there.
I also remember dropship smashing because there was no collision damage, as well as the first instances of 'tower sniping' and dropships that had small missile turrets being the most OP thing in the game. Assault Rifles having perfect accuracy/damage up to 100m or more.
Trust me, I remember a lot of the negatives; I just prefer to remember the cool stuff that was actually better than what we currently have.

Also I'm not sure if we're looking at the same footage, because the only thing I'd like from that other version would be fighter jets. Also if CCP messed up something so close to industry standard as UE, think what mess would we see with their "original" baby. In words of George Takei: "Oh my!"
Also current build is better than closed beta IMHO. I've been here for over 18 months and this is my opinion. Also I'm not going anywhere, unlike all the doomers & gloomers.

The other vets, like Aeon, only remember the positive, and not the negative. I agree with you in a way. I do remember all the insane bugs and crappy hit detection, the overall lack of polish and whatnot and while I agree it was in no way superior in gameplay and mass appeal (what little there is) of what it is now it had a certain quirky charm to it. There were long periods of time waiting for an update and dealing with almost unbearable bullshit but I honestly had fun back then...problems and all. Perhaps it is because I've never been a huge fan of the standard FPS games like COD or whatever and so I enjoyed all the insanity.
I'm glad they fixed it because the game would be even more of a disaster if they had released it as it was but I'm just saying that I, personally, had a lot more fun back then than I do now. Or did as I haven't played in months because once it started getting more "polished" it lost that charm for me. I keep hanging around waiting to see what happens but I'm not feeling very encouraged.

The old Repair Tool beam :/
I will say that the new one is nice for not lagging the game up or glitching, but the old one just looked so pretty, especially when you had it connected to two people at once.
The burst rifle having 5-7 round bursts (I always thougt it was 5, most people say 7) The amazing HMG range in chromosome (I know it's back, but for a while it was absolute crap) Manus peak ambush (other game modes on it sucked though) LAV boosting (drive a LAV off a jump then exit your vehicle and you go flying) When there were so many free LAVs running around that AV grenades were actually worth it

Skirmish 1.0 was also considered to be too imbalanced for pubs. They should bring it back for PC and FW

Oh, I almost forgot! The 4 minute login time...and the constant crashes making you restart the game. You'd spend more time trying to play the game than you would actually playing it.
Do you remember at fanfest when they announced that they reduced it to 30 seconds? AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!

I've been doing dropships and proto AV then and I concur -- if you had any clue you'd be able to make the entire map a no-fly zone solo. And when there was no AV my dedicated gunner would go something like 38/0 and get a bunch of hatemail afterwards. Yet with another AVer you were guaranteed to have no derpers above. Also proto forges still OHK those flying coffins like mad.
I-Shayz-I wrote:LAV boosting (drive a LAV off a jump then exit your vehicle and you go flying) Yes, I remember this! You could have paratrooped enemy nest with heavy/shotty squads from LAVs! That was one of the funniest things in the game, especially on first Manus Peak version, objectives A & C. In current build even jumping out of flying dropship can get you killed and now I'm sad.
