I see a lot of people arguing that AV is for making tanks run away, and that if it runs away, you "won" because you forced it out of the battle.
Yeah, maybe, for 10 seconds?
That's the problem, there is no lasting effect, tanks just regenerate uber quick and come back and stomp the AV user that DARED (ghasp) to try and shoot their baby!
If AV, say, stopped shield regeneration for a long time/slowed armor regen to a crawl, that would force tanks out of the battle for long, so that making them run is actually a small victory.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

+1 The extremely fast regeneration rate makes the ease a retreat even more of a problem.

Infantry AV that is, tanks are anti everything.
Also, what the **** does the first sentence have to do with anything? Do you hate bugs biting your shiny metal arse and actually doing something while squishing them?

I am more safe and can do more damage in a 70k tank than my 200k Proto suit.

My 500k real tank fits are perfectly fine in risk vs reward.
1.2m for tanks pre 1.7 was far too high risk vs the reward. |

On a similar note maybe it's time for Structure Points. Only different from Eve. When large amounts of alpha damage occurs within a given interval (like a half second) a small amount is transferred to hull damage. At various thresholds have that damage translate into penalties.

Yet another thread about av being under powered. So one man should stop a tank? It's called get a corp or a squad and hunt down the tank. Get a suicide jeep, get a rail tank. Your little swarm launcher won't kill a well fitted tank.

cause I fart in right direction can kill any sniper. any suit can kill a sniper. same as everything in the game can kill any AV. simple fps dynamics, in a fps game.
Tanks can only kill tanks? Av is just a deterrent? In what bloody fps game has that?

However, the pendulum has swung too far back in the other direction, mainly because tanks are so easy to spam because of how cheap they are. So why don't we
1. Limit the amount of HAVs that can spawn.
2. Only allow one hardener to be fitted, or have horrible stacking penalties to fit more than one.
3. Slow HAV spped significantly, but butt their health somewhat, to emphasize their ability to stand and deliver, but not to escape.
4. Breach RE that does 3500 damage in a 0.5m radius , and buff proxies to 2500 damage with reduced activation timers. |

My idea is that a tank needs to be able to stand and deliver, but it should take awhile for it to get where it needs to stand. IMO, a scout with kincats and sprinting should outrun any tank, save for if it fits speed modules.
Limiting hardeners either by a raw number limit of one or horrendous stacking penalties if two are fit would emphasize that window of opportunity where tanks can take any and all AV comers. But when that window closes, he should be vulnerable to counter attack by any surviving AV players, who now have a relatively easy target for them to brutalize. So it is in the tankers best interest to coordinate with infantry to kill the enemy before his hardeners enter cooldown.
Breach RE and buffed proxies mean infantry have more tools to kill HAVs, and it doesn't upset the balance of AV vs dropships or LAVs (who, I believe, should be able to outrun the timer on a proxy. The counter to them? swarms, which have increased missile speed to deal with them.)
An HAV should be a large threat in whatever area it is in. But they should only be such a large threat when A. their hardeners are up and B. when they cannot get from one part of the map to another in seconds. |
