Look, at much as people want to fight the fact, when one certain item is constantly spammed by noobs and vets alike it can only mean 2 things:
1. It's new and everyone is having a laugh. The problem will sort itself out over time.
2. It's OP.
Not enough time has passed to tell for sure. I don't believe tanks are OP but I do believe they are ruining the game for a lot of people. Personally, I have a nice AV fit. But I want to shoot face damnit.

Yeah, I agree. Having a tanker in the squad helps tremendously. But that's not always an option. And I like how you scoff at the 6 proto tryhards when tanks are the ultimate tryhards. I don't see people running for the redline to save their suits...

Are you talking about a tanker or some fool with a militia tank? Because the 2 are very different things. We have some tankers in the corp. So if they're not online I'm just supposed to not play the game???

Try-harding is running nothing but PRO gear all match, in a full squad with people also running nothing less than PRO gear, in pub matches. I really don't understand how tanking is a crutch, or being a try-hard. I've been tanking since about a month before Uprising. I'm no try-hard. It's what I do.
Just saw your edit. So - please explain how running a protosuit is tryhard but running a tank is not tryhard. I would love to hear this. Both offer an advantage over your enemy through ISK. Both are not guaranteed wins. Both can be killed by militia gear.
And for the record I save my Protos for PC 99% of the time. Unless I'm feeling frisky.

Come on man. If you've been around that long then you know anyone who uses anything but a Dragonfly BPO or militia starter fit is a tryhard.... Or at least that seems to be the consensus.
All I am saying is that if protosuits are tryhard gear then tanks are the tryhard vehicle. You are literally paying ISK for an advantage over poor noobs. That's all it is.
Can't we all just agree that Aurum **** is the only real tryhardy thing in this game and move about with our day?
