Salutations, Aaronjin.
Welcome to a game that is as much a "de-stresser" as a frustrating game of golf, when you are a beginner.
But it is probably GOOD that your 'FPS' experience is LOW. Much of the frustration that many players have with this game (and this game ALONE) is that their typical FPS used some playing mechanics that we consider CLASSIC and easy-to-beat (easy to cheat?). Dust 514 feels like it bizarrely rebels against the typical FPS "experienced" player. This is partly due to the EVE Online computer game that Dust gets its storyline from, and partly due to Dust just wanting to be a NEW and DIFFERENT type of FPS. For one thing, it almost demands some kind of TEAM and SOCIAL cooperation from players during gameplay---it seems to give the most assist and least humiliation to those of us who COOP and communicate with each other. For those of us who like to run around solo and shoot things without finding tactics related to the players around them, this game can be VERY HUMILIATING to your fps ego.
So what you have done here is superbly SOCIAL and very "EVE" of you. It should give you a great edge over many new players. Those of us who learned to get very coop-interactive TEND TO feel they have success and incredible fun in Dust...
I specialize in a transport vehicle (dropship), so my fun in the game is supporting and covering other players on the battlefield. In the process of learning my trade, I've had to learn how to be EVE-social with Newberrys and other players. There ARE lots of Dust players like me. As you find "the right crew" for you to hang with, I recommend you use the options in the mail/search menu to "ADD CONTACT" for each of their names. It allows you to send instant invites, so they can morph directly into your created squad in whatever match you happen to be in.
I play 10:30 pm to midnight (US EAST coast timezone) nearly every night, and am holding a learning squad tonight for anyone who wants to experience ways to reach objectives with a dropship as your support and back-up. If you'd be interested, tonight open the chat-menu and type a search for... "Learning Coalition". You can find me on that chat channel. I use a MIC.
Thanks for the post, Aaronjin! |
