The below facts have been tested/verified by me using two PS3s in Oceania.
1. Scouts inherently beat Advanced and Basic scanners by nature of their suit bonus (avoids 36dB and higher).
2. To beat 28dB proto scanners, scouts need Dampening Lvl 3 and a single basic or militia dampener. I previously thought it was Lvl 2 Dampening but it's really Lvl 3.
3. To beat the 15dB Duvolle Focused scanners, the Gallente proto scout must have Dampening Lvl 5 and four complex dampeners. Three complex and one enhanced won't do it. This is the only suit in the game that beats the Duvolle Focused.
4. In all of my tests, I received "No Margin of Error" upon scanning the scout no matter if he was illuminated (successfully scanned) or not. I was not able produce the "Some Margin of Error" message, leading me to believe that it was either taken out entirely or that the conditions to display it are so discriminative that it is very rarely seen.
So my advice to scouts:
Get dampening to 3 (202k SP).
Start your battles without dampeners. If you find that you are scanned, switch to a suit with a basic or militia dampener.
If you are scanned after that, either switch to a different class or take note of when you are scanned and count for 10 seconds; once ten seconds are up (the scan time and illumination time of Duvolle Focused scanners), you will likely fall off of the squad's radar (unless they have multiple Duvolle Focused scanners in the squad, which is rare).
If you still find yourself dying or suspect the enemy of using multiple Focused scanners, snipe :) |

You would be wrong (if by "it" you meant the Duvolle Focused).
If you're talking about 28dB scanners, 2 complex dampeners are overkill on a scout.
For Medium suits, two complex dampeners and Lvl 5 dampening beats 28dB scanners, but not the Focused.
As I said, it always says "No Margin of Error" regardless as to whether I succesfully lit up the scout or the scout went undetected. |

This thread was meant to show that scouts need comparatively little investment (202k SP, 1 slot at 18 or 15 CPU) to dodge all but the Duvolle Focused scanner, which is nearly impossible for anyone to avoid.
In my experience, you'll run into this scanner in fewer than 1% of matches. I play A LOT, and have only be scanned once or twice by the Duvolle Focused (coincidentally one of those times was by a pair of Nyain Sans, trading off with the Focused scanner).
But yeah, since this scanner exists I suppose it means all scouts are automatically useless. That 1% really kills the class. |
