he point of the sniper is to pick off those unlucky enough to get shot by them. so people complain about the sniper because hes in the redline killing them from a safe distance where they cant shoot back. so people complaina bout the sniper that killed them just beacue the sniper is doing his job from longrange killing them.
the target must be ex[ecting to be killed by the sniper rifle at 80m or something? that would be stupid as the sniper puts himdelf at risk by being that close. so when you have a rifle with 200+ plus damage per shot that fires incredibly slow why wouldnt oyu be 400+ meteres away where your nice and safe?
people are just complaining about the fact thier being killed by a sniper doing his job of picking you off from a safe distance. the point of a sniper? lol, really! The point of a sniper is to sneak deep behind enemy lines and provide recon for his team, the point of a sniper is to support the infantry that are out on the field. Imagine you are in a war and you see a sniper hiding in your base and he can't see the area that your troops are in and he can't support them, he is just sitting comfortably at the base which so far away from the fight that he is ineffective, wouldn't that make you angry?
Both are valid points.
I do both during the same game, but mostly I'm in places where I put myself at risk for direct attack.
If redlining can do something good for the team like locking down one or more objectives, it makes sense. I can kill reds going for the hack, cover blues counter-hacking and counter-hack myself. Redlining isn't my preferred tactic though, because I'm always open to counter sniping.
A fair number of my kills are counter snipes. Especially guys hiding in the redline.
I have sometimes been counter-sniped by CQC guys who I just killed. They spawn in a militia sniper fit and kill me right back. If you are too lazy to counter-snipe me, or get your team sniper to counter-snipe me, then the problem is yours.
So far in FW I've been TK'd twice. Probably by people who think snipers are somehow not valid or are cowards.
One guy followed me around watching me hack and lay down uplinks and nanohives. He kept shooting me without killing me (doing a ton of cumulative damage to me). Then when I squatted to nail a red going for a hack, the guy following me killed me. He disappeared from the game right after that - likely for getting a 24 hour auto ban for doing lots of friendly fire damage.
Another guy kept running into me, standing in front of me and doing non-lethal melee attacks. Up to that point I'd gone 11/0, sniped a bunch of red uplinks and nanohives and locked down two objectives. I'd built up a ton of WP from the uplinks and nanohives I'd spread around the battlefield. Near the end of the game he started putting RE's around me. When I noticed this, I moved away before he could blow them. In the end he finally just killed me while I was lining up a shot on a red squad leader during the last few seconds of the match.
Neither of these guys were doing anything useful to support our team for the whole game. They were just taking up space and hassling me.
All because they had some silly point they felt they needed to make.

The problem is that most people can't tell the difference. Not unless they watch a sniper for a whole game. If you are watching a sniper for a whole game, you are a waste of space.
Most people never know about the two reds I kill running towards a blue guy starting a hack. He finishes the hack and runs off, thinking he was lucky and smiling to himself.
Most people don't know that I killed the driver of that orphan red LAV that they find and steal.
Most people don't know about the red uplinks and nanohives I snipe, allowing objectives to be less well reinforced.
Most people don't know about the objectives I lock down behind the battle. All they see is a row of blue objectives on their HUD. It keeps morale up.
Most people don't know about the red swarm launcher guys I kill to save blue tanks.
Most people don't realize how much I frustrate and distract the red team during a firefight.
Most people don't realize that the red proto fatty with 10% armor was made that way by me. Now you can take him out with ease.
Most people don't count the times I hack.
Most people don't count the bodies I stack up.
The problem is that a few people just want to punish us because they don't understand what proper snipers do during a game. The self-appointed vigilantes who TK us are just pig-headed ignorant gits.
