Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the game is meant to be played with players fulfilling different roles and different things. Nobody should do anything and contrary to popular belief, a squad of tankers will not win a game (that's not ambush) by themselves, and from experience just get themselves killed.
We're not meant to be going at eachother on the forums and drawing up a line between AV and Vehicles, or Scouts and Heavies, or Dropships vs Tanks etc, we're meant to work together and fulfill roles. Instead of coming to the forums and whining about a tank, how about you mail a tanker? Instead of coming on here whining about a dropship flying around, speak to an AVer or a Dropship pilot to help you out. Your team isn't coordinated and isn't winning? Make some friends with Infantry players.
Fact is we're meant to all help each other, not just infantry with infantry and vehicles with vehicles, I know it's easier to go with the people you know, I mean I do it, if I'm having trouble with tank spam, which some of us will find does happen, I ask a rail tanker to assist me, usually pegasis or lorhak, if I need Infantry because we're just not pushing, I'll find some friends.
Use the tankers to push or kill tanks, if you're working with a good tanker tell him what to do, chances are, if we're in a squad we're just trying to be helpful. If you've got AVers, ask them to position themselves somewhere with cover and to keep an area locked down. If you've got Infantry ask them to push a point and secure it.
Go with a mix, let's say a Dropship Pilot, a Tanker, a Forge Gunner, and three infantry, you've got a squad capable of pushing up and really laying into an enemy fine. Get the Tanker as a rail to guard against rail tanks, once he's in position get the dropship to put you on a high position near an objective, the forge stays the Infantry lay links and hit the objective, Dropship stays up as recon/distraction, tank switches to blaster and pushes with Infantry, Tank stays on point once clear and Infantry push up. If it's a struggle tank moves on and assists and then falls back to his point, Forge continuously moves up to support.
What a lovely game.

Out of three factions (I stay out of Caldari), each and every team I was getting put one were spineless cowards. I can't push by myself anymore. There's too much ganging going on for me to do so. If my team is too afraid to go forward, I'll try to do what I can, but I can only do so much.
Meanwhile, as we few break our (metaphorical) back, we have the little ***** rolling around in HAVs, too afraid to get out of them to contribute to something more. "But you need a HAV to kill a HAV!" Bullshit. I can kill them with six R/Es, a PM (proximity mine) and a goddamn AR. I don't want to hear that ****. I'm tired of the cowardice and the excuses people are trying to make.

What a lovely game.
Whilst I must agree the best game is a balanced game it's like 1% of games which I know is what you're here to protest. But it just never works like that because it's like the stars aligning.
Everybody just wants to be superman and only play for themselves because that's what games are, living out a fantasy. Somebody is always going to using an AR with a heavy and using a blaster on infantry makes you feel like you're invincible or playing some sitting-duck-shooting-gallery section in campaign mode.
The best games are when there are tanks on the field, but fighting each other, with AV on either side. Snipers on each side as opposed to only one. Logis, assaults and heavies on the frontlines working together.
And err...scouts... yeh in boring games I sometimes see one going around knifing but that's about it. |

player selfishness or just doing what they want mixed with suit imbalance will only hinder what we want. A balanced dust. Like Karma, Zen, Chi.

Let's split this into two games CCP. Infantry and vehicles. Then, like EVE, they can eventually "influence"one another without really "touching" one another in the swimsuit area.
Hmm, what to name it? We have DUST for the infantry game. Valkerie for the starfighter game.
How about GRIT?
Or keep DUST for the vehicles and name the infantry game BORING.

Yeah I know how you feel apart from the current balance discussion its hard to find someone who knows how to play. I hae been in lots of games where the nemy should obliberate us (six tankers killing anyone moving) but none of them even bothered o go for the objective so they lost. I have been in games where my team redlined te other team but no one went for the objective [:o so we nearly lost...
Sometimes one with experience and brave can make a difference on his own but most times it is useless when no one is following you, using your well placed uplinks or defends the objectives you have just hacked.... |

I believe that it has to do with the fact that most people in this game would love to do nothing more than have their counter removed or placed into complete inferiority.
Also, that whole idea/dream falls apart because you will never be able to field an even amount of players that have different roles. (ex: not every team will always have 3 Logis or be able to have 3 tankers on it fighting each other)
We finally deployed in the MinFW Match!

Logis, assaults and heavies on the frontlines working together. And err...scouts... yeh in boring games I sometimes see one going around knifing but that's about it. And hey, when was the shotgun a scout only weapon? I've had heavies and people in armour-heavy suits come at me with one but they've never been able to kill me. Remember, any other game, or an old-school multiplayer game with your friends? If you wanted to use the shotgun, you used the shotgun. It should be the same in DUST. Maybe make: a light assault rifle for the scouts; different rounds for the shotgun; scout-specific pistols and SMGs; the new pistol, perhaps scanners only being able to be used by scouts? Since they would be recon in any other game, surely. Although I'm sure further balancing and content can help people live out their roles. I think really the whole locking a suit to a certain playstyle directly conflicts with being able to "play your own way" and also is against what CCP want to do because let's face it, if you only want things to be role-specific (which I do as well) you will literally have to make the suits only good at one role and completely useless at anything else. That's the only way people won't use the suits differently, when and because they can't use them differently. Which is a bit like forcing people to do things, although, logis shouldn't be better than heavies. There's always the logi argument which I agree with because it's not a "logistics" class. How about this Ground ForcesFrontlineAssault fast-moving but deadly in combination with the heavy due to combined stopping power. Heavy SupportLogistics Remove some high and low slots, equipment and support should be the speciality Scout acts as recon, can use scanner, provides intel to team, hacking bonus, speed bonus, etc Vehicular Support split up into 2 sections, ground forces and airborne forces. Ground SupportFrontlineHAVs can survive solo but heavily rely on logistics players for repairs, ammo. MAVs, inexpensive, smaller tanks, more small turrets, slightly larger troop carrying capability but a lot weaker. (it basically just adds another class in for the heck of it) SupportLAVs (can re-supply tanks, carry logistics players to repair tanks) Aerial Support FrontlineHAAV (heavily armoured aerial vehicles, the tanks of the sky AAU (aerial assault unit, a.k.a assault dropship, need to find a better acronym) used for short-medium length encounters, not too hard or easy to take down, used to support tanks in a front-line attack wherein the AAU acts to the HAV as a MAV does. SupportRDV (remote deployment vehicle, unarmed or lightly armed aerial vehicles a.k.a dropship for troop reinforcements, aerial precision scanning, warbarge support if a squad leader is present it acts how the LAV does to a HAV. I'd probably agree with your post if I bothered to read it.

I agree that teamwork is key to balancing vehicles, but there's a clear problem when you can be a 1 man army as a railgun tank sitting behind the redline with complete immunity, and I'm not sure if this topic is some-what in response to Judge's recent post, but if it is, redline campers and the actual roles of vehicles have no relation, because those campers are using a mechanic (that was intended to nullify any damage from shots coming from inside of it) to make themselves literally invulrable from any attack, except another railgun tank. And it should be well known that when the only counter to a redline railgun tank is another railgun tank, there's clearly an issue. |
