I see a lot of people complaining about tanks. Yet when I get on the battlefield, I feel like I am the only one trying to take them out with my forge gun.
I feel that if more people used/speced into forge guns (or other AV), tanks would be much less of a problem. All I see is people using rifles getting farmed by tankers. It's super sad. |

Forge guns are a viable AV option, true. I've seen my roommate solo countless noob tanks.
However, it's not practical to skill into "other AV" like PC and SL. It forces you to give up versatility, infantry killing power and self defence in exchange for the chance to maybe kill a tank. But what usually happens is tanks can avoid light AV weaponry easily with modules and running away.
It's not practical to carry a PC and SL unless you're doing it for the lols. They are not versatile enough to justify using an entire primary weapon slot. PC's and SL's should be sidearms or equipment.
The PC and SL should fit into Sidearm/ Equipment slots so it's accessible and practical to carry one.

I tried and gave up. My forge suit runs me about 72k ISK and I could take down a dropship no prob. However, I would die solo about 5-6 times in a round vs. tanks. So, I go negative 150 to 200kISK best case.
The cost factor makes me just avoid them. If 2 people with the same setup run together tanks go down quickly. You can do about 11 damage in 10 seconds.

In Chromosome Tanks where ubber strong in the right hands.. took a bit of micro managing and working with the atrocious equipment wheel, but they where un-soloable unless they screwed up in the right players hands.
In this case in Chromosome 80-90% of mercenaries had AV grenades on their suit. Granted they where better at chromosome levels, tanks I would argue are not as strong now compared to Chromosome. As soon as 10 of 13 infantry are packing AV grenades, then everytime a tank gets close its met with a hail of AV grenades. things will equalize more and more.
add that in with AV specialists and or people that have switched suit with a grudge in mind, tanks won't be able to sit anywhere long without blowing up or having to run and wait for cooldowns. |

Forges are close to useless against tanks (unless the tanker is clueless) right now. -Damage on them was cut -Charge times were increased -Heavies are slower'n molasses in January -Tank are faster than LAVs -Hardeners essentially negate damage from all AV weapons. -Tanks are stupid cheap right now.
When I pull out my forge gun I might get one shot off at a tank. Then it's either out of range, or some combination of the following; run me over, shot me a half dozen times, let out one of the extra operators to blast me to pieces with a submachine gun while strafing in circles faster than I can move in a straight line, turned on its hardeners, let the other two or three tanks with it shred me, not noticed I was there at all because I was silly enough to grab a breach gun and it moved over a hill while I was charging my first shot.
Unless of course I spawned in on top of a building or other vantage point, in which case there's almost always a friendly sniper somewhere who smacks me in the face a dozen times while I'm charging up the second shot.
Don't get me wrong, I still get stupid and use the forges now and again, but they rarely do me any good unless another tank is already beating on my target. Even if I manage to take out a newbie pilot, the other tanks running cause enough damage to my wallet that it usually isn't worth the effort.

Here's the problem.
Why bother taking out a tanks(s)? The enemy can just call in more since they only cost 60k ISK a pop...
Its becoming more effective just to avoid them and change your game plan around them instead of trying to blow them off the field. |

I know! The only thing that should ever destroy a tank is: ANOTHER TANK!
They need to remove AV grenades, Swarm launchers, Forges, Plasma Cannons, and Turrets from this game. And any installation on a Drop Ship or LAV should actually give the tank they are shooting at reverse damage; like a repair tool! Their should be NO AV IN THIS GAME, PERIOD!

You would be surprised about how many people don't know about this.
It's actually pretty viable. Swarms force tanks to turn on their modules, which in turn forces them to leave once they turn off. If you see a tank, hit it with AV. Even if you can't kill it, you force it to module to survive (which it then becomes invincible), but at the same time, putting a countdown timer on it's time there. They HAVE to leave after those modules finish, because popping tanks without modules is the easiest thing in the world.
The Lolmando actually works well in a cohesive squad, allowing you to pack AV without sacrificing offensive power.
If you really hate the Lolmando, then just get your friendly Minmatar Assault to run AV for you. Those Assault SMG's are basically mini-AR's, and that 100 round clips works pretty well when you need it too

It's hard to use a forge gun to kill tanks when...
- Tankers are using hardeners (making your damage completely ineffective).
- The new Forge Gun nerf to damage and charge-up time.
- You have to be on a higher elevation to even dent tanks; they simply run off at 40 times the speed a heavy can run.
- They are so cheap, that if you SOMEHOW destroy one, they will just call another one for much cheaper, and with much more intel from the last escapade (where your position is / where to avoid).
I have killed 2 tanks since this patch deployed. One was from a Forge Gun on top of the "rings" (only some people will know what I'm talking about), and he drove into the city, where I had JUST enough time to take out a Sica. The other one was with my Wirykomi Swarms, and that required another tank to help me.
Since then, I understood that with this patch, CCP intended mainly Tank vs. Tank battles, since AV cannot make a dent in most tanks, even without hardeners (since they will just bolt out of view quickly).
I have been just running Somas and Sicas so I can make around 20 kills a game, for all under 100k ISK. This has made me pretty wealthy, and I intend to do this when I need to farm or troll the other team (by destroying everything they throw at me). What is nice about this last patch, is that fitting tanks is very easy, as you only need a hardener, and a couple armor/shield mods, and all of this can be more effective than a dropsuit, and all at a fraction of the price of a proto suit.

Why its not worth the effort I use RE's its a bit risky but all in all much more usefull as I don't have to sacrifice my main weapon... |
