DUST 514, is causing my PS3 to crash, its been happening for a few months now, if it was anything hardware related, or if my PS3 was going to die, it would've happened already.
I've sent in multiple tickets, I've followed every instruction you've given me, and I've handed my PS3 in to be repaired, only to have it come back, because they could not find anything wrong with it.
It just happened a few minutes ago, during a Dom, where there was very little equipment spam, after it shut off, I felt my PS3 to see if it was hot to touch, and it was not, and this happened only around 15mins into the match.
I'll even give a list of what I've done.
- Replaced the power cord, assuming that was the problem
- Moved my PS3 further away from the radiator in the room
- Defragged my PS3
- Rebuilt the database of my PS3
- Reinstalled DUST
- Deleted my DUST Save files
- Handed my PS3 in for repairs, only to have it handed back
So anything that is causing this, is on your side, not mine, I have done everything I can do, short of buying a PS3 slim.
If you're going to continue developing on PS3s for the next year or so, and if your going to stick by that "There are 80mil PS3s", at least, make it work on the PS3.
Its a pain in the ass, to have to keep checking for corrupted files, because you cant get the game to work on some PS3s.
I'd like to add, that I'm not the first to run into this problem, and that this problem is exclusive to DUST.
I can play GTA, Dragons' Dogma, Dark Souls, Demons' Souls .etc for a lot longer than 15minutes, without a problem.

Its a 60gig Phat.
But is that information really relevant?
If you're going to make a PS3 game, find a way to make it work on all PS3s.

Not many, I removed some already, I'll log back in again, and remove all of them.
But if that doesn't work, the problem is definitely on CCP's side.

Have the 60gig fat model, the one that came with Metal Gear Solid 4 (which I've never even opened.) Used to have crashes when playing Dust on it, but it's actually become more and more rare in recent months. Separately, I've received the "fatal error" message from Dust twice.

Quote:Unfortunately, it seems like some of the first generation of PS3 Systems may not be able to handle the heat of the CPU load properly.
Yeah, great idea guys!
Continue developing for PS3 for the next 20 years! But make sure it doesn't work on all of them.
My PS3 can handle;
The Last of Us Dark Souls Demons' Souls GTA Crysis Dragons' Dogma, and pretty much every other game in my library of games.
But it just cant handle DUST.
DUST is so broken, even my PS3 refuses to let me play it.

CCP typically respond to this kind of post in General Discussions by dropping everything else they are working on, flying the devs over to the OP's home with all their debugging kit, and camping there until they've fixed the problem. If it requires replacing components of the OP's PS3, or fixing its configuration, or anything to do with the power distribution or Internet connection, they do that as well.
No, really.
Honestly they do.

I used to have one of the original 1st gen 60gig PS3s. I ran into the same problem of yours, I did EVERYTHING POSSIBLE that was listed for help in aid against the freezing trouble. There is NO FIX.
Dust requires so much more out of your GPU than other games. I thought i was overheating, took apart my PS3 and applied new thermal paste, nothing changed.
After a couple months of pissing and moaning about it, I just went ahead and bought a new PS3 slim..... PROBLEM GONE.
So there are your options.. 1.) continue to freeze and rage constantly 2.) spend so $$$ on new system to continue to play a terribad game. |

I think this problem, is A LOT more important than all the bullshit 'Tankz r OP' posts we've been seeing lately. That's all fine, but this thread won't make any difference. Tank balance affects far FAR more players than this issue, so it will likely get more dev attention. I have a lot of sympathy for you, and understand if you need to vent here on the forums, but that's probably all this will be.

It's to do with the memory,
much like in MAG, once the buffer is full, it has no more slots to write memory to, so it just hard freezes,
That's my 100% uneducated guess anyway, they never did find out the cause for hard-freezing in MAG but I'd bet ISK that any game hard freezing is somehow, mainly related to the memory. |

This is untested, but a reflow may help. It's about a $150 repair. The problem with PS3 is the lead free solder used in order to meet European requirements does not match well against games that stress the cpu. The processor can get hot enough to degrade the solder.
Try looking up RLOD repairs on youtube. It involves disassembly of the system and heating the cpu and gpu enough to reshape the tiny soldered connections under the processors. You can do it at home, and it could either fix or brick the unit. It worked for me for about three months. Best bet is to find an electronics repair shop with PS3 dies, but for just a bit more, you could replace the unit.

Yes the memory leak is a known issues, No they haven't found the 0 or 1 causing it, yes the problem is more prevalent to older hardware, No there is no guaranteed gimmick that works, but here's a list:
Full uninstall- reinstall of dust Delete dusts saved files ( settings and random catches) Don't run music or the browser in the background Run video settings at medium to low Pray like hell they can find the damn leak source
Something witty here.

ISSUE RESOLVED:
I noticed when on my other character I rarely ever froze. I noticed on Celtic the one I do freeze on channel numbers. It used to be fixed but apparently it is occurring again.
Having too many channels no longer just freezes up dust, but your entire PlayStation. Since I reduced my channels I have not froze even one time.
Hope this helps folks, some say keep "extra" channels down below 6 extra channels. This does not account for corp, alliance, local default channels.

Sadly it works yeah. I have a gen 5 slim and if I don't restart it after about two hours. .. well the research lab moves like a pc match.
Also yeah, voice capable channels do play a role, because voice is handled by a third party. .. sucks up a lot of resources too.
Something witty here.

So, it just happened again.
Sent in another ticket.
Ticket wrote:Please check this battle;
Sunday, 22/12, 12:50 - 12:51 EVE Time.
Check for whatever could've caused this, anything.
This is just becoming an awful pain, and I dont see myself continuing playing DUST if this continues, every other PS3 game, can work on my PS3, but for some reason, DUST, which is a PS3 game, only works on select PS3s.
It makes no sense.
I have;
Replaced the power cord, assuming that was the problem GÇó Moved my PS3 further away from the radiator in the room GÇó Defragged my PS3 GÇó Rebuilt the database of my PS3 GÇó Reinstalled DUST GÇó Deleted my DUST Save files GÇó Handed my PS3 in for repairs, only to have it handed back GÇó Removed all possible chat channels GÇó Cleared space on my harddrive GÇó Lowered graphic settings And everything else, you have suggested.
There is nothing else I can do, this problem comes back to you, I have done everything I possibly could do, the only thing left to do is to delete this game before it causes my PS3 to die because the amount of times I've had to check for corrupted data, cannot be healthy for my PS3.
I might actually go play games that are developed for the PS3, with all PS3s in mind, and work on ALL PS3s.
This is like the tenth ticket I've sent, so I just got real impatient with them.
DUST is so broken, even my PS3 refuses to let me play it.
