Here's an idea. Instead of continually scanning, the Active Scanner should send out a single pulse. Just one. If you get hit by that pulse, you're marked. Prevents people from abusing the thing by doing a 360 while using it. Also, instead of just getting a "you've been scanned" notification, have it mark the scanner to whoever was hit by the scan pulse. If you mark someone, you yourself are marked. Possibly add a variant that's weaker, but doesn't reveal you to the enemy.
With these two changes, I think the Active Scanner would be less overused while still being an effective tool for finding the enemy. No more 360-degree turns to reveal everything nearby, and no more spamming it without consequences.

except the active scanner is designed to do just that, ITS DESIGN NO SCAN THE ENTIRE AREA TO LOCATE BIOMETRIC SIGNALS EMITTED BY ENEMY DROPSUITS, EQUIPMENT, VEHICLES, AND INSTILLATIONS.
you cant complain about people using their equipment as it was intended.
and why should it give away your position, its for your intel not the enemy, thats why its a personal handheld scanning device.
and there are major consequences such as not being able to defend yourself.

Some scanners have a long scan time for the sole purpose of being able to spin around and scan 360* - i.e. the Creodron Proximity scanner.
What they should do is halve the current scan times, and add this to the illumination time. That means that the most commonly used scanners (the Adv and Proto Quantums) won't be able to get 360* anymore, just 180*, and only if you are very quick. |

I think the scanner's 360-¦ spin that everyone does is actually an exploit otherwise there would be no point to the varying scan durations.

The 360-¦ thing does indeed seem like an exploit. An alternative would be to make the scanner detect things after a certain time of continuous exposure depending on their profile. You could still find a few heavies by doing the scan rotation but not much else.
Regarding the "scan and get scanned" idea: I like it in general but i think a blanket rule is a bit too indiscriminate. Here is an alternate version of this idea from me that increases your own suits profile while and shortly after scanning.
This means that most heavies and mediums are likely to get detected themselves when scanning but the lights'/scouts' low innate signature radius makes them able to avoid detection.
Currently there's no reason why scanning should be done by scouts over other frame sizes. This would adress that, cut down on the spam signicantly and finally give scouts something no one else can do better.
You can take a benign object, -you can take a cheeseburger and deconstruct it to its source...

Your entire team gets intel of all scanned enemies, but the scanned enemies only get intel on you. Taking one for the team, per se. Also, unless the enemy is observant, they might not even notice you.

HAV= HEAVY attack vehicle(heavy generaly means slow moving) NOT SUPERPOWER FORD MUSTANG WITH GUNS Whoa, easy there. For one, I've driven HAVs back in Chromosome. For two, I'm not saying it's not a problem, I'm say it's not the only problem. There are other problems with the game. There's never been a game with no problems with it.

once again it is used for avoidance and manuevering to find a better way to engage the enemy and that entire purpose is negated if it gives away your position
idk about you but if i get scanned the first thing i do is look around to maybe catch them when they think im not looking

I mostly agree except the part about the scanner user being marked part. In my opinion, a scanner user could indeed be marked but only for player to whom the scan failed to detect. This would make using dampeners more rewarding.
As for people justifiyng the 360-¦, please do explain why is it that every scanner has a stat for scan angle, some scanners being 45-¦, others 60-¦ or within that range. That stat is completely irrelevant with the 360-¦ maneuver. Scanners were made with 2 distinct options, one with narrow scan angle but long range and another with wide scan angle but short range. The fact that people can 360-¦ renders this intent for scanners obsolete.

If scanners were meant only for "snapshots" at a specific angle then they would all be instantaneous, and you wouldn't get any more data when turning around.
Yet we have some scanners with 5 second scan durations, allowing you to spin and collect constant intel throughout your pirouette.
Scanners had to have an angle just because of they type of device it is - a handheld beam-projecting flashlight deal. The narrowness of the angle itself only comes to play with the flux scanners, which have very short scan times. That's why I'd support a change to the current scan time so that the Quantum scanners will only be effective for 180*, assuming you still spin with them. In all honesty I doubt this would have a huge effect on gameplay as most organized squads have two or more people scanning for them. |

You're right, it would be better if scanning was reworked so that it wasn't as exploitable.
However, this is more of a quick fix to tide us over.

I don't like the idea of being auto found when using an active scanner. It already keeps me from using a weapon while scanning, which means being lit up like a Christmas tree for everyone feels over the top.
However, a partial give away wouldn't be bad...Some visual indicator that indicates which quadrant the signal came from maybe. That's also more in line with how tech like that actually works. Finding the source of a signal when you only have one point of detection isn't really viable, usually takes three (four if you're working scanning from the sky...)
Of course even that would make me sad. Nothing quite as amusing as scanning your way to the back of a snipers head.... |

I'm a ballerina and honestly I would be ok with a 180 view. I'm not sure I dig people being able to find me just because I scanned. However, it would be hilarious for a single red to come get their revenge and find me...and the squad I'm always running with. However, it would be just another red flag on the logi. I'm already jumping around like a flea while healing my crew.
Generally, I've learned to keep my scanning to some minimum in usually 180 degrees because its what my team ultimately really needs. flank, front, flank, in the direction we're moving, so I think that's a legitimate restriction. However, now when I see the 'you have been scanned' message, I tend to scan back out of spite. "Fine!! I'll scan you BACK!!"
