The OP is going to hate the other minmatar weapons, because there is concept art showing thier sniper rifle and pistole which are based from the same design.

I disagree, I think it looks great, it fits the lore and it's theme, the story behind it is that Matari use a modular design concept when it comes to weapon design, that's why the Mass Driver, SMG and CAR look so much alike, cause they use the same basic parts, think Dead Space 3's weapon customization, it's the exact same weapon design logic. |

I also hate the method of using existing weapons in the game as a base, but despite that, I think combat rifle turned out looking pretty good. I really hope they will get more creative with their weapon designs instead of just basing it on existing weapon designs in the game; shotgun, AR, and plasma cannon prove that you can make weapons look like they're made from the same race without making them look almost copies of each other.

What? How is it based on the AUG? About the only similarities with an AUG is the bullpup design and bullets, they end there. It has more similarities with an XM8 than an AUG.

Actually gameplay wise its more similar to a non-chargeable Scrambler rifle.
Its look is based on the Minimater design language this is a good thing that helps with consistency and immersion.
Turrent - the sound a tankers pants makes when he finds out the four swarm militia doing squats around him aren't AFK.

The original design was for a variety of Minmatar weapons to use common components. The concept art has been floating around for at least a year now. The Precision Rifle is going to look a lot like the Combat Rifle but with a different barrel. There is a micro mini-gun design that looks a lot like the SMG that is intriguing. Personally, I think the concept and the aesthetic fits the Minmatar quite well.
If you want variety for variety's sake then go Amarr. The care about pretty things.

The AR looks like a toy to me, all those round edges scream "safe for shildren". The ScR is the only one that looks dangerous to just pick up, what with all the exposed cooling vents, and sharp bits at the operational end.

At first I didn't like the design either but after using it, it grew on me. Reminds me of a cross between a carbine and the needle gun from Buck Rodgers.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"
