This is why the people against scanning so soon where so vocal... but everyone was like *oo shinny new thing* without even wondering if the entire dynamic actually worked.
Would be nice if it did though

All that video proves is that the enemy shows up on your radar when in line of sight. Your dumb
Here is a thought. Skill into profile dampening level 5. Then use 2 proto profile dampeners. You will not be seen.
No you kill this blueberry hacking the CRU we are camping. I already killed the last 2.

I didn't play enough of 1.6 to test, but I know in 1.5 there were times when my precision-buffed Scout was snuck up on by a MILITIA Heavy Frame. I also had tanks and LAVs come up behind me and I'd only know they were there because of the sound, not a single hint of them on my scanners.
And yes, I've had a time where I tested this on a NOT-dampened MLT Heavy suit with a friend running it, and he came up and meleed me in the back of the head without ever showing up on my scanner. So I'm pretty sure that wasn't working as intended.
The video shows nothing except what we've been told is meant to happen, but it would be nice if profile dampening had at least some impact on detection range. or the radius at which you light up around the enemy's crosshairs, so you could stay peripherally "visible" and not get flagged even while you're on-screen. |

Delete the scanner and give us back our passive skills. Enough said.

Oh really? And the fact that I was using a Gallente Logistics suit (standard, might I add) and ole boy was using a Prototype Minmatar Scout with three profile dampeners does what to this logic?
I'm dumb for pointing out what many perceive to be a flaw in the system but here you are trying to convince us that speccing into profile dampening will somehow negate the instant plastering of your chevron on the minimap like a greasy burrito on a bathroom wall after supper time.
Listen here, how's about you sit down and try the experiment yourself before running off calling people dumb - it makes you seem like one of those people that say dinosaurs are a construct of Satan to make us believe in evolution.

That's 50 or so meters that simply being on the screen will put you on the map, regardless of your profile and regardless of their precision. I'd say something is wrong with that. If all it takes is just casually glancing over someone - even if you, the player, did not physically recognize that there was another player there - it reveals your location. I don't think it should work that way. I think that your precision should have to beat their profile in order to reveal them on your TacNet. Now that you put it that way, I see what you mean.
Bear in mind this works with Sniper Rifles as well and those things can see through walls in some cases. Just bring the crosshair over your suspected target and their chevron lights up for no reason at all.

For a test like this to have any validity you will need a third party perspective as to asertain if the damp'd scout actually showed up on 'thier' tacnet. I actually doubt that the scout would show up for 'all to see'. This vid shows the correct function of the hud when 'looking directly at the enemy'. They are supposed to show up on 'your hud' while in line of sight, regarless of profile period. I support the current hud/tacnet mechanic entirely.
Spotting behind walls is a broken mechanic and has been broken for many months now. I routinely keep my sniper trained on targets behind walls with the sole intention of 'spotting them' for a blue for go 'fetch'. I now wonder if profile plays any part in the whole spotting behind walls glitch...
PS. Stacking profile dampners is redundant, although I do understand this was done for testing purposes. PPS. Was the potato used to record this gameplay baked or mashed? XD |

Doesn't matter if he shows up for 'all to see', the second you see him you're going to relay it to your mates via comms if you couldn't immediately kill him which you more than likely will. 100m is a long ways to instantly "spot" a target even if you didn't visually recognize that someone was there to begin with.
Yes, hardy har har, Aeon has to use a Webcam because he can't afford to shell out the cash for an HD Capture card.

Then CCP needs to pick the scouts nose and clean his ears.
