Your suit's precision should have to beat their suit's profile for this to happen. Had posted this in the past but I figure it needs to be brought back up.

Last time I checked, hiding behind a hill masks your profile from the enemy precision scan. This video just confirms my theory.
Also, the built-in base precision of your suit is only meant to pick up most medium and heavy frames. They were never meant to pick up light frames like the scouts. You can try to augment the precision scan to get maybe a scout with a standard profile level, but you're never gonna be able to track a proto scout. Nothing wrong with that.
EDIT:
If you're talking about being spotted beyond the 10m range, he was withing your line of sight which means he will light up regardless on the mini map. By the way, the passive scan range for scouts has been recently buffed to 16m now.
OK, CCP. When are knives finally going to be improved?

Then you're doing something wrong. If he's hiding behind a hill, that might explain why. But if he's hiding behind a man-made wall, then it's pretty obvious he did everything he can to reduce his profile. But even then, a fatty shouldn't be able to hide from me. What is your current fitting?

I just ran the numbers.
Scout Mk.0 with the most high slots for a scout class currently can be augmented to have a precision scan of 23.71 dB using complex precision enhancers. Commando Ak.0 with most low slots for a heavy class currently can be augmented to have a scan profile of 27.36 dB using all complex profile dampeners.
You should not be able to have a problem seeing him.

Hmm... is this a recent problem with 1.7 because I haven't been able to log back in since I no longer have a PS3. Back in 1.6 when I had it I was having no problem at all seeing heavies behind me.

I'm level 3 in profile dampening and on my Min Logi I put on 3 basic profile dampeners and a complex armor plate. My profile level after the math is said and done would be about 29 dB (decibel). This means that tanks cannot scan me out and scouts will fail to pick me up only if they did not skill into scan precision. So either your dB (decibel) on your dropsuit is still high or your profile dampening level is too low. |

Not enough precision enhancers and the heavy is probably stacking profile dampers up the ass. But that means they are soft targets now.

You don't NEED profile dampening.
List of things you WILL need:
Militia Caladari dropsuit
2 shield extenders
2 armor plates
militia shotgun
militia smg or pistol
militia locus grenades
A sense of humor
Fantastically unaware enemies (if they see you they're probably already dead)
Systems hacking level 5
All core pg/cpu maxed out
The ability to press on while your screen reads 'YOU HAVE BEEN SCANNED'
Same as above and number 8
Have fun

I've mentioned it to musturd when we've been running around together, and he basically said tacnet was broken. and this is before 1.7.
You know someone can see you through walls be cause you can see them on the tacnet matching your movements. And to get surprised by a heavy- which happens- is kind of silly. And to not pick up tanks and low flying dropships is even sillier.
You can run numbers all day, but the numbers aren't what's happening in game.

The point of this is you don't want vision to result in marking people on your TacNet that would otherwise be missed by passive scanning? I've thought about this too. If an assassin was standing in the shadows in a dark scout suit and dampened off your TacNet then it would be nice to be able to stay hidden to a quick visual scan.

It's not about direct line of sight, it's anywhere on the screen. That's 50 or so meters that simply being on the screen will put you on the map, regardless of your profile and regardless of their precision. I'd say something is wrong with that. If all it takes is just casually glancing over someone - even if you, the player, did not physically recognize that there was another player there - it reveals your location. I don't think it should work that way. I think that your precision should have to beat their profile in order to reveal them on your TacNet.

Nothing is wrong with Passive Scanning guys. I have done tests https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=110984 It works...most people fail to understand the minimap ranges, the enemy speed, and the compression effects.
However for a long time I have pointed out that LOS scan is unfair to the profile game. Precision of 0? We have "I Spy" books for a reason, nobody's eyes can spot everything. Radius of at least 80 meters? Come on....
