gunner and driver have separate slots.
IE needs 2 players to operate
vs
2 av to counter
teamwork encouraged on both sides, impact equalized.

We suggested this, tank drivers got their panties in a knot Apparently its ok that we have to use teamwork but they dont

Throwing it out there, I drive tanks and I'm for this.
Of course, I'm driving them because sicas wreck my protoed out Python still, but the point remains. Not all who drive tanks get bunched up over it. |

Do you blame them? The tank gravy train is going full speed. Bring in your tank, hop inside, drive forward and occasionally fire the turret while you are catching up on GoT or finshing up Breaking Bad. After the match is over and you are 30/0 go back into the queue for another instant battle. Repeat until you have more ISK than god.

1. pilots will never skill into tanks just to drive them or depend on someone else to drive them.
2. it kills the entire reason to use tanks.
good luck with trying to gimp them further though

Better solution: Introduce multi-man tanks that are more powerful than single-user tanks. Sweeps the field clean of Soma piloting scalp hunters. |

This is the only solution I can see that ends with any kind of agreement on balance, but in order for it to work the single-user tanks would have to be nerfed to the point that they can be solo'd be AV, and I'm not at all convinced the solo tankers are ever going to agree to that.

Along these lines, it might be most feasible to have a gunner provide a bonus to ROF/accuracy/range/whatever (carrots seem to be more readily accepted over sticks). In this case, a tank with a single person in it would still work fine for area denial of infantry, but a tank with two people in it would be able to kill the tank without a gunner if all other factors were held equal. Thus, a one manned tank would work fine for area denial, but would not be able to rule the field if confronted with a two-manned tank. This leads to an interesting tactical choice vis-+á-vis effectiveness vs. other HAVs weighed against removing another infantryman from the field. Another possibility (not necessarily mutually exclusive), would be to allow the gunner to skill into turrets and the driver to skill into vehicles and modules. You could fit any turret, but the gunner would need to have the requisite skills to use it. This would allow two lower SP toons to effectively fight a single very high SP toon. |
