I play a lot of ambush. So I see a lot of tank spam. I figured, as a commando dude/idiot, that my suits' time had come; finally, a chance to bring av to the field and be wanted! Rich pickings from the low hanging fruit of MLT tank spam!
Uhh. Not quite.
Listen. Tanks are no harder to kill now than they were before, truly. They just die to a different method. Whereas before you could solo a tank so long as you could stay alive long to hammer it with two clips of a swarm launcher, now you pretty much need to put all six missiles into the hull at the same time. Alpha damage is totally pivotal now. Plink away with one or two light AV options and all your doing is giving your position away. So teamwork is key.
Is this good for the game? I guess so. I actually like tanks as they are right now. They're threatening to all tiers of infantry, and red-lining rail tank scumbags aside they are themselves threatened by dropships. I find the issue here is one of cost, and if the risk/reward ratio that is now bent all out if shape. Make losing two of them in the same match a real financial loss and spam tankers will think twice.
As for the argument that infantry having to swap to AV and thus taking themselves "out of the match", two points: 1-tanks are in the match. Killing tanks and/or driving them away is a net gain to your team, on account that they no longer have to deal with blaster cannons melting them into slag. WP earned for damage to tanks and mobility kills will make AV a profitable career path for those that wish to choose it. 2-when you need healing, you ask for the logi. When you need an unkillable brick to defend or spearhead, you ask for the heavy. When you need to kill a heavy tank presence without sacrificing your teams anti infantry capability too much, nylon ask for the commando. Laughed at that last bit? Yeah, me too a bit. Buff that suit, make it viable, and see the useful AV fits it can bring to the team, because it's a tactical niche it was born to fill.
But yeah. We got told. Go us.
Dedicated Commando.
So it's a good job KDR doesn't bother me, really.
