Every turret option has 8 types of ammo, yet tactical ammo for Dust orbitals only gets 3 variations? That seems extremely limited for a game with such incredible, wide-open customization. You have your hybrid OB for massive area of effect. You have your laser OB for devastating damage to a smaller area of effect. And the Minmatar projectile turrets get EMP?! So a pilot is floating around the beacon like a sitting duck to basically spam flux grenades from space? This is especially confusing when you consider the description for nuclear projectile ammo...
"Nuclear weapons are considered by most races to be crude and primitive. However, the Minmatar still favor them over more sophisticated weapons due to the abundance of materials for plutonium production in Minmatar space."
Could there be a better anti-infantry strike than nuclear?!?! Yeah, I can't think of one either.
Personally, I would love to see all turret variations get multiple ammo choices. Infrared & Microwave laser OB! Antimatter & Uranium hybrid OB! Nuclear & Titanium Sabot projectile OB! Come on CCP, make this as diverse as other aspects of the game.
***I posted this on the Eve forums first. But not everyone here also plays Eve.
Start trolling with embarrassing spelling errors in 3 2 1.........

I'd like to see variation but more in the current line of what we currently have as I have two problems with nukes and sabot rounds as nukes come with the side effect of radiation (not sure if EVE has the tech to just wash it off) and I'm having a hard time about sabot rounds surviving atmospheric re-entry.
But variety is the flavour as they say.
((spelling errors embraced with love and understanding))
Cheer up a bit will you

That's a very realistic view of a sci-fi game that takes place in a universe with clones, stargates to jump from system to system, inertia dampeners that stop you from freefalling, and uplinks that make you magically appear. :P
Thanks for the constructive criticism but free your mind Hecarim Van Hohen. There is no spoon! |

Think about it like this: You run a Caldari scout, but you can't get shield extenders unless u also spec into Gallente dropsuits. Make sense? As of right now, the hybrid orbitals of Caldari & Gallente will kill you. Amarr laser orbitals kill u. Minmatar projectile orbitals only take away your shields. If a Minmatar pilot wants to drop effective orbitals like the other races, they have to spec into the weapons of another race. It shouldn't be like that. Maybe nuclear isn't the right answer, but EMP is absolutely the wrong answer! For the sake of argument, here are the options for projectile ammo:
Carbonized Lead Depleted Uranium EMP Fusion Nuclear Phased Plasma Proton Titanium Sabot
I want more variety for all orbitals of every race. But there is a difference between a want and a need. Minmatar NEED better orbital ammo! That is blatantly obvious.

Eve players don't really train along racial lines, they cross train quite early. Also, "speccing" into lasers for Eve orbitals is about a 3 hour train. Their skill level doesn't affect the damage, and the hull bonus doesn't matter either.
My eve character is Minmatar. He's in the Caldari militia. He drops orbitals from a Gallente destroyer, using Amarr lasers. You can train up a basic bombardment pilot that can drop strikes using all the weapon platforms in less than a day. |
