Where do I begin...
The amount of frustration with these is unbelievable. They are my new "most useless aspect of the game." I can't imagine the amount of fail put into these things, the lack of development is mind blowing. Lately I've decided to try them for my squad, try to get an advantage and strategy going with my squad to where a dropship could help. But it's just impossible. Not only is controlling the worthless crap impossible, there is no gain, or benefit from using it. Sure, you can have people spawn and you can drop them somewhere... But even that is severely crippled. Here, let me try a list.
Controls; What the hell. It took me a while to get good at it, but even with me being good at it the dang maneuvering is unbearable. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of ways to program it so that people can actually FLY the ship. CCP; With you developing a game where you FLY ships, I have no clue how you messed up so bad with the one flying aspect in an FPS.
Landing; Ok so I should call it crashing, because landing is not something that really happens in this game. I've rarely seen people successfully land there drop ship. Most of the times, they destroy it or get very close to destroying it. Again, no clue how it's that complicated, but it is. Make landing, and salvaging our ship possible!!!!
War Points; It's obvious that a lot of people love them some war points, right? So uh... Where is the WP gain with the drop ship? Unless it's bugged, I'm not seeing any WP. I actively scan and detect enemies that flash on the radar, I provide a respawn point, and yet, nothing. I'll occasionally get random transport assist points, but usually it'll be below 20, and sometimes I get those points way later in the battle when I'm on foot and have departed from my ship. Pretty frustrating when you get no rewards for buying a costly ship that gets destroyed easily.
Normally I wouldn't whine and complain when it comes to a free game, but the fact that multiple people have brought the same problem up and it is an ongoing problem means it needs to be brought to attention. |

I don't know, I've played MANY flying games and I think the dropship controls in this game are fairly simple to grasp and master.
If flight is to easy in an FPS the skies would be dominated by assault dropships.
Landing is the hardest part of flying in both real life and any game I've played a flying role - if you descend in a controlled means you will take no damage landing a dropship - I was able to master this in a game where my team was matched with an empty enemy team.
Until I had a mastery I built a 'pilot' suit that had Repair tools to repair my dropship after landings.
I went tot this zoo the other day,
Al they had was a dog.
It was a ShihTzu.

I've had enough experience with flying to know that how it's done in Dust 514 isn't a completed process, and needs work. |

the ccontrols are fine stabilization is iffy but a pro can handle or u need practice landing i can come in at full speed and make a landing without eny damage u just suck like most other pilots or wantabes war points are better then before you get some for flying now it used to be none and no isk at all you dont understand how far dropships have come upriseing was the first in a long line of milestones for ilots like me just take some time n learn the **** stop being that uiter that blames others learn ur limits and your ships limits thats all now the fun part ships in modtion ar to fast for forge guns and rail guns so flying is at the easyest its ever been and with forges nerfed the only standing is rail turrents and tanks rail guns if their really good

I'm sorry your a bad pilot. Dropship can be flown and landed easily. Especially the viper because if you let go of the stick it auto levels. Being a pilot is a long and frustrating road. Trust me I've lost hundreds of dropships to be at the level I am now. You have to work at it, there is no easy path, it isn't something you just pick up and are proficient at. Landing is always the hardest thing for a new pilot, just practice taking off and landing. Check out judge radamantheus' channel on YouTube, he has a great tutorial video that will help you learn some maneuvers and strategies. |

.... Roran, SHHHH! You mustn't say things like that... Don't you have any idea what you may have just done? Don't you know? Don't your KNOW?!!
..... I try not to make any harsh assumptions in this forum (well, I TRY), so tell us please how long you've been in the game, and how long you've tried learning the dropship. Seriously, I'm not asking as a way to set you up for all sorts of crass, hurtful commentary...(but be ready for the POSSIBILITY that some DS pilots are already spell-checking their response to you right now--that's how fighter-pilot cocky Dust DS folks are----soft and mellow ones like me are genetic oddities, LOL).
I FEEL certain that the Dropships were not supposed to get all the fan-attention and interest (Dust is a GROUND game, isn't it?). But over the past nearly three years maybe--the dropship has become some sort of CULT thing. I only picked up DS interest this past June, but I realized it is NOT a plane at all, and can't be throttled into doing what you're asking of it Roran...not when you want to master it using "flight-principles" and you want "flight-controller" layouts to bring logic to it. I struggled with that fact at first---then started checking the forum sites---and found vet players who have been practicing on DS for MONTHS and MONTHS before they call themselves good.
For MOST of us (not all) learning the DS is another Dust GRIND (like the SP grind), it's NEVER a course in Flight-training. For those of us who discarded the "airplane" mindset---worked our arses off getting the hang of it, and finally got good--operating the odd thing is SO quick-second nature for us now...that we look back and are o kooky, proud of the achievement that pulled off and defensive about anyone suggesting they "simplify" the physics/controls.
I WON'T glorify my dropship (for Dust, I'm just the bus driver), but I have to correct remarks I read in the past like it's useless or a fail-magnet or a limp military asset.
--You'll only get more frustrated if you call yourself "good at it", when you're still calling the maneuvering unbearable. If you're still THINKING which button to press when the ship starts bucking you ...you're not NEARLY "good at it" yet.
--You'll only get more frustrated if you "slap" modules on it and rush out into the open expecting it to be the "Death From Above" vehicle you sometimes read on the Dev site (...personally I think that phrase is meant as an inside joke ).
--But a warning to you, Roran: I BET YOU'RE ALREADY ADDICTED TO IT--like learning golf, you're cursing it now, but you're gonna be picking the controller up off the floor, checking it for dents, and TRRRRYYYING again. And again. THAT'S the way capable DS operators are made in Dust 514. The ONLY way.
(Umm, I have to step aside now and leave you... the avalanche of "pilots" coming your way with angry fists just isn't my scene. Don't take stock in their rants, and don't let them get to you.... they're just IN LUV, and you said something bad about their girlfriend....) |

Join the "1st Airborne" a pilot specialist chat channel and tell them, politely, that you are struggling to see how it is possible to fly well and that you can't see how they can be useful. Ask if you might join an experienced squad and if they wouldn't mind showing you that it can work and can be fun.
It is hard to do but it is rewarding when you learn to do it. Killing with an AR is just as easy as spawning with one. Part of the fun of a dropship is that it is hard and the rewards for succeeding are all the sweeter for that.
Note: Tanks are broken at the moment, making dropshipping harder than it should be.
NOTE TO EXPERIENCED PILOTS : Don't land on the OP to harshly. Sounds like he will be a dedicated pilot one day. Lets all be nice and help him from easy mode game play into the area where only the experts dare tread. Open to fold gentlemen and let him in.
