.... Roran, SHHHH! You mustn't say things like that... Don't you have any idea what you may have just done? Don't you know? Don't your KNOW?!!
..... I try not to make any harsh assumptions in this forum (well, I TRY), so tell us please how long you've been in the game, and how long you've tried learning the dropship. Seriously, I'm not asking as a way to set you up for all sorts of crass, hurtful commentary...(but be ready for the POSSIBILITY that some DS pilots are already spell-checking their response to you right now--that's how fighter-pilot cocky Dust DS folks are----soft and mellow ones like me are genetic oddities, LOL).
I FEEL certain that the Dropships were not supposed to get all the fan-attention and interest (Dust is a GROUND game, isn't it?). But over the past nearly three years maybe--the dropship has become some sort of CULT thing. I only picked up DS interest this past June, but I realized it is NOT a plane at all, and can't be throttled into doing what you're asking of it Roran...not when you want to master it using "flight-principles" and you want "flight-controller" layouts to bring logic to it. I struggled with that fact at first---then started checking the forum sites---and found vet players who have been practicing on DS for MONTHS and MONTHS before they call themselves good.
For MOST of us (not all) learning the DS is another Dust GRIND (like the SP grind), it's NEVER a course in Flight-training. For those of us who discarded the "airplane" mindset---worked our arses off getting the hang of it, and finally got good--operating the odd thing is SO quick-second nature for us now...that we look back and are o kooky, proud of the achievement that pulled off and defensive about anyone suggesting they "simplify" the physics/controls.
I WON'T glorify my dropship (for Dust, I'm just the bus driver), but I have to correct remarks I read in the past like it's useless or a fail-magnet or a limp military asset.
--You'll only get more frustrated if you call yourself "good at it", when you're still calling the maneuvering unbearable. If you're still THINKING which button to press when the ship starts bucking you ...you're not NEARLY "good at it" yet.
--You'll only get more frustrated if you "slap" modules on it and rush out into the open expecting it to be the "Death From Above" vehicle you sometimes read on the Dev site (...personally I think that phrase is meant as an inside joke ).
--But a warning to you, Roran: I BET YOU'RE ALREADY ADDICTED TO IT--like learning golf, you're cursing it now, but you're gonna be picking the controller up off the floor, checking it for dents, and TRRRRYYYING again. And again. THAT'S the way capable DS operators are made in Dust 514. The ONLY way.
(Umm, I have to step aside now and leave you... the avalanche of "pilots" coming your way with angry fists just isn't my scene. Don't take stock in their rants, and don't let them get to you.... they're just IN LUV, and you said something bad about their girlfriend....) |
