GÇ£Skill damage modsGÇ¥ is advice I only give to FPS vets who have a good gun game. For an EVE vet who has never used a DS3 or played a FPS, I always recommend core shield and armor skills. If you canGÇÖt hit your target the Damage Mods donGÇÖt do much. More shields and armor may help them make it to cover when they are being shot at.
Although the TTK is so short right now that modules donGÇÖt make a huge difference, but CCP will fix that, probably next patch.
Everyone who is an FPS vet is running damage mods. I am an FPS vet. I ran damage mods all through beta - I have been here since replication. I tried to not run them since launch to run shield tanking with recharge but module balance is so broken in this game that damage mods are so much more worth it - and I have now given into the inevitable (caused by CCPs rubbish balancing) Admittedly I am basing my loadout on what is required for PC. in pubs I have found that if I am not running mods I am not at too much of a disadvantage. But I would give this advice to non FPS vets too. I am a bit concerned that you think advice from FPS vets isn't the right advice for new people. Advice from vets would in my mind have a strong weighting. They know what they are doing. For example, core skills are not the b all and end all - beyond 3 they should only be maxed if SP cant be spent on active modules that give you greater bang for your buck. TTK will not necessarily be 'fixed' - even if it does need to be fixed, which I am not so sure it does. Rather bonuses such as regen / recharge and to armour need to be massively reworked More importantly CCP do not seem to be able to balance modules to create the different playstyles you talk about But by the time CCP may have got round to sorting out the above you might as well as have got your damage mods to begin with because you will have more SP to spend in whatever the 'new' playstyle CCP is trying to introduce
Precisely.
The bottom line is that if you can't drop people quick enough then any fit your use won't stand up in any challenging situation, medic logis brick tanking is the exception as you need to take and dodge alot of bullets.
Hp and damage mods is the choice between surviving half a second quicker or dropping anyone in less than two seconds.

I think that people who have been playing FPS games since their balls dropped donGÇÖt have any concept of the challenges faced by someone who starts their first FPS in their 30GÇÖs.
More health means they may get a chance to get a shot off before they die. More damage modes instead of more health means they will die before they get a shot off, which means they donGÇÖt get practice shooting.
Once they have been playing for a month or two they may be able to react and aim fast enough for Damage mods to be worth something. For me it was a good six months before my gun game was good enough for Damage mods to be worth it.
Since DUST is linked to EVE and is touted as an MMO as well as an FPS, we get a lot more players with no FPS experience than other FPS games probably do. |

Some of the strategy for noobs clearly forget it takes 6 mths of game play to get the SP and the gameplay skills to utilize them.
Noobs are not entitled to win anymore then a single AV should be able to take out a tank with ease.
Vets should be able to kick butt. But not immune and not using hardware limitations.
The counter to something should not be itself.
I'd agree if there was a wooden spoon war point reward even if you don't beat the proto guy. |

I'd like to see an iskies ratio of the KDR. I'm pretty sure a lot of the positive KDR outfits are not economic.
New Eden has a lot of economic warfare in it, so bring that more into Dust would be nice. Eve pilots get kill mails now so isk ratio would be nice and possible. We can strip the module information and just give their value to keep people's secret sauce just that.
I might go 3/6 KDR but the isk ratio might be 300k:60k
I know his Alt is expensive to run as the exo mass driver gets about 1 kill to 2 assists to 0.5-1 death.
Turrent - the sound a tankers pants makes when he finds out the four swarm militia doing squats around him aren't AFK.

If someone's KDR is significantly below 1.0, they're going to be doing a lot of dying, reguardless of the suit they wear.
Contrariwise, if it gets significantly above 1, they're going to be doing a lot less dying. reguardless of what suit they wear.
After playing for 4+ months, I can now often go >1.0.... wearing a 100% free suit. So, my suit is infinitely econimical :D

no, not "obviously".
Do you think medics in real life go running around shooting at enemies saying "look at me I'm invulnerable!!"
No. They stay OUT of the line of fire, wating for safe opportunities to heal someone.
It should be the same in DUST.

No, in dust when you are repairing people you have to be able to take shots quite often.

I'm not biased, I'm trying to tell you that telling blueberries the only option is Logi/Assault is not the way to go. What you're doing is creating more FoTM people, and we all know how much we hate that. I have had a problem with encouraging multiple play styles when obviously one rules them all.

Uh... Please no. Never mix real life with a game where tanks run on Shield Boosters, and there are full body-armor suits made out of a metal fabric, that's directly linked to your neural system, and you spawn in on mini wormholes, that could possibly give you cancer, and the same full body-armor has a built in fail-safe device where the heat of a bullet is spread over a wider area, harming the user more but making the suit take less damage.
Never, EVER mix real life and a game like this.
