So I played my first Minmatar FW of 1.7 last night. I was ok with the loss, it sucked, but then so did my team. I could even stand the hit to the wallet, it was only 135k. What ticked me off though was that in the end of match screen I was looking at my stats...then suddenly a fatal error occurs and I had to restart. Not so bad right? Until I log back in and find the game registered my lost suits, but not my measly 65LP or standings earned. Hope this isn't a taste of things to come... |

Sucks, but it's only 65 LP which is less than chump change. No standings as you only gain standings if you win.

Clean uninstall and reinstall before every patch usually solves most fatal errors.

Thanks for the tip, do you suppose it would make a difference at this point? Maybe it was a one time deal... |

Being a seasoned programmer (over 30 years) this suggestion means that the prorammers had better learn more about the system.
Imagine being in the space shuttle, and being told to uninstall and reinstall because the system had a fatal error.
Software needs to be properly tested, before it is delivered. How would you like to uninstall and reinstall windows, for every patch?

How would you like to uninstall and reinstall windows, for every patch? deleting and reinstalling every few updates actually makes sense, it helps keep the file size of the game down. as for whether it helps clear up fatal errors, idk.

Actually this type of statement shows the lack of knowledge that someone has towards hardware and software; or the ignorance of a person that calls themselves a programmer, when they only think that they know how a system actually works. (I could use many examples to show my point, but that would be to way more than we need to get into here.)
Updates should clean themselves up. If an update adds features and functions and places these in another sector of the drive, the unused sectors of the drive that have been freed, should now be returned to the system properly so that it c\an be used by something else.
Now if you are talking about keeping data compacted on the drive so that the heads of the hard drive doesn't have to all over to different sectors, then that would be fragmenting a drive and would still not be uninstalling and reinstalling.
You actually have more chance of loosing the integrity of the data that someone has entered into a program that is used (by storage of previously entered data) from the user of the program when you uninstall and reinstall.
If you are going to reinstall, it should be from a backup because of a hard drive failure. Not from a software patch.

You've presented solid arguments as to why an uninstall should be unnecessary. Your tone seems to be antagonistic towards other posters though, is that your intent. I gotta tell you, there's a fine line between playing hard to get and playing hard to want.

I do apologize if it sounded antagonistic, as that was not how I meant it to be. My point was that it is unnecessary to download the program which could take hours for a slow Internet connection, thereby being frustrating for some people that have a slower connection.
My other point is that programmers should have the code tested properly before release, as this type of problem should not happen.
