From what i know in my two years of playing EVE changing races is not an option and i have not heard of it being an option in the past so i would not get your hopes up.

Before I started this game, I took some time to read about every one of the races so I wouldn't have faced this problem. Not saying that's what you should have done, but reading this thread, I'm glad I did what I did.
If I had to be Gallente, I would have just jettisoned my clone into the unknown space.
I am proud to be Caldari. Nothing will ever change that.
Also, how can a defector be trusted? |

Which blood line did you pick? If Intaki then you should know that many old intake family groups were exiles during th Gallente/Caldari War for sympathising with the Caldari desire to be independent.
If Straight Up Gallente then sorry.....you dun ****** yourself over a little....
You could always be a test tube child like the EVE side background and simply say that a selection of Ethnic Gallentean living in the State were chosen for a project to create a fully recognisable Gallentean child, loyal to the State, and able to enter the Federation at will due to its open laws.

This is definitely a problem. It effectively makes one's race a moot point as nearly everyone picked their race before they got to understand the New Eden universe. It also makes ground for in-game prejudice based on one's race nonsensical.
