CCP, I think I may have a solution which is fair for everyone.
Currently new player retention is really low because of all the pub-proto-stomping. Tiericide is not the solution, but what about this:
In Pub matches you have filters: Skirmish, Ambush, Domination. In FW you have filters: Amarr, Min, Gal, Cal
In Pub, you should have an additional filter: Suit levels: Std, Adv, Proto, "I don't care"
Default == "I don't care", QQer (me) selects Adv or less. Anyone who joins a match < Proto cannot select any Proto suit fittings.
It could even allow multiple selections so that if you wanted to play in a strictly Proto vs Proto match you could only select Proto.
Since it only affect pubs, and new players mostly play in pub, they will likely enjoy the game better. What's more, Protos can still play in pubs, adv and std are not forced to go up against proto, it really is win win.
there is only one group of people who will not like this, and if they are a priority, then all your efforts on new player retention have been in vain. The only people who will hate this are the players who play proto with the intention of picking off noobs and having an unfair advantage.
This change should not be applied to FW or PC(obviously) but I think would make public matches more accessible to, say, the public. |

While this is nominally possible, remember that older players have most likely skilled the proficiences like more damage or shield/armor bonus, so they are going to be stronger than newcomers. Still, it would be a slightly easier challenge than facing a full-proto enemy.

So let me get this straight.
You want a system where full squads of experienced corp players are able enter a matches where all the newest players are forced to go... and you think you are going to reduce pubstomping? Not. Even. Close.
People need to really stop fixating on tiered equipment as the cause of pubstomping, and focus on balance the teams according to experience levels of the players, which we can do by balancing SP levels of both teams. It's really that simple.

Payouts could even be less or more based on your filter. This way, there is no point to pub stomping if it hardly pays for your suit. |

Full agreement on letting go of the gear fixation... apart from then focusing on SP. SP is mostly related to character age, not player ability. It doesn't even have to lead to improved performance if faulty choices are involved. Lifetime SP is actually misleading if the player decides to take a break (or several!).
No single metric will do any good in improving matchmaking. A more "holistic" approach is needed.

PC funded players or those with 200m+ simply don't have to care anymore.

It would reduce pubstomping if you could get over the fact that a person with full proto regardless even at newberry level can still whoop on his fellow newberry fresh out of the academy. if you cant acknowledge that fact then honestly your just as guilty as the rest of dettering newer players from continuing to play the game. At least this way any player regardless of level can feel like they can still do something worthwhile. At least this way many of our newer players can actually practice with people at their own skill level or slightly better and perhaps one day put the rest of us out of business. Most players i come across blame the newberries for a defeat when their is almost a full team of them on one side whereas on the other you have proto stompers such as Nyain San, Latinos Killers, Ancient Exiles ((to name a few)) And We dont realize that we cant blame them because they never had a chance of winning to begin with. |

While I totally agree, we have to consider the very tiny player base and how long match making would be. I think for starters (till we get our player base up) it needs to be something very simple, and not too many parameters or you may never get in a battle.
That's why while everyone on this thread is saying stomping will still happen by vets with > SP, the difference is maybe less OSK by a charged proto scrambler, which would be harder to fit on a std suit, and instead one charged shot and a few pumped. And not everyone would sacrifice all their slots to carry a proto weapon.
It needs to start somewhere, and there just aren't enough players to implement just one magic fix.

Doesn't look like you used yours. even if the newberry gets proto suits, it wouldn't matter because there are only basic, advanced, or ptoto suits allowed in the respective game types from what Slick has said. And with your 12M SP count, you still have even a small advantage over fresher players thanks to skill bonuses such as Weapon proficiencies. the only difference in this type of match up would be that now every player has a semi decent playing field to fight on, even with sp boosts. |
