I did. He talked about how, eventually, the little blueberry gave up and began sniping because all of the Protostomping on the other team. He also talked about how that was a 'good thing' because it would be a drive to get better...not just, y'know, quit because people are asshats and want to be the big fish in the ever-decreasing little pond.
I said he was on the Proto team, that was a mistake. Is that really the issue? Not the fact that he said, "I don't hate proto stompers they are the goal to be and beat." Protostomping is not something to aspire to: it's something that should be eradicated by removing tiers, which are only detrimental to true balance.
This story is nothing more than a truly depressing tale of how the game is utterly unenjoyable the game can be when you're faced with a bunch of assholes in Proto gear going up against new players. |

Don't bring your crybaby attitudes to me or blame me for being a part of the problem. Wanna blame someone blame CCP.
You know I do have one more point to make... You are condoning cowardice and mediocrity. Says alot about your character.
Please tell me how Protostomping is good for the game. Is it because it makes players HTFU? Is it because it's something to strive to do themselves? I do not understand the notion that utterly destroying a new player's morale and having a very real chance of driving them away from the game (which is severely detrimental to the game's overall health)is actually a good thing.
Certainly, there are some with the grit to push through and keep fighting, but they are definitely the minority. I think you'll find that a lot of the people who dislike Protostomping are not in favour of twitch-shooter mechanics either: DUST has a lot of promise as a thoughtful and tactical shooter, yet it is currently all about whether you Protostomp or have mad gun game: there is next to no actual tactical thought, the game does not reward the most effective team because bad, illogical mechanics (WP for Orbitals, for example) reward mediocrity and cheap...I don't want to call them tactics, they are more like gimmicks.
At the end of the day, Protostomping is the equivalent of ganking in EVE but there is no foil to it. In EVE, you have to manoeuvre to avoid the wrath of CONCORD, but the Protostompers in DUST simply whistle merrily as they drive every casual gamer out of the game. Sure, there should be areas that don't cater to casual gamers: inversely, there should be areas that don't cater to hardcore gamers. This is New Eden, where life is harsh for sure but at the end of the day this is still a game and there are elements of the playerbase that abuse the current state for personal satisfaction that is ultimately not fun for a majority...assuming that Protostompers have not driven away so many people that they are now actually the majority, anyway.
I'll close with this quote as to why your viewpoint is horribly flawed:
Grease Spillett wrote:I can't lie to the and say it's gonna be fun The simple fact that you're unable to describe the game that is DUST 514 as fun, because of the likelihood of Protostomping, is a terrible indictment.
I don't know why I bothered with this, since Protostompers and Proto-apologists alike rarely care about the actual health of the game...
And FYI, I have a solid core of good people. I enjoy playing with them, there are some very good players and we rocked pretty hard in some of the tournaments despite being a small, non-hardcore Corp. Do not assume that people who complain about Protostomping are all scrubs: a lot of us just want the game to be healthy. |
