The False Derp
That magazine would be unable to directly feed bullets into the chamber, severely cutting the cycle rate - hence, the end RoF. However, the universal magazine design between almost everything except the Scrambler Pistol suggests that it actually stores Nanohive nanobots that construct the ammunition immediately before it's loaded
This causes that bend to make more sense, because you need some separation between the nanites and fully-constructed rounds for maximum efficiency in nanite usage - thus, it may allow for larger ammo capacity.

Other Thoughts:

At least the SMG does and the Combat Rifle is just a big SMG. I am basing this off the SMG, HMG, repair tool and Mass Driver. They all have lights. Madness is the emergency exit. The Matari have no idea how to design a weapon it seems. [+ªa¦Ç+¦++-ö-Å94] The Plasma Cannon is not underpowered. BUFF PLASMA CANNON DIRECT DAMAGE
