The Combat Rifle is not based off the AK. So you are wrong in more ways than one.
Also, the AK - 103 had a Bull pup variant.

How does this look like an AK?
About the magazine... Probably uses a magnetic rail assist to push bullets up at an angle then straight up.
Or like other weapons, the magazine has nanites instead of actual bullets. So the bullets aren't formed till they are right below the chamber, would explain how they can maintain 100 bullets in such a small magazine.

Edited my comment... The Magazine probably has nanites just like the HMG.
Also, it has to many lights to be gas powered, at least completely.

It is dazzled in Orange lights. It is really obvious on the Proto variant, except those are red lights. At least the SMG does and the Combat Rifle is just a big SMG.
I am basing this off the SMG, HMG, repair tool and Mass Driver. They all have lights.
