I have been wondering lately. Why do people skill into fotms?
Does it make them feel better knowing they are using the best gear possible? I mean, what challenge is their in using (usually) much better suits or op weapons. Does it create an illusion of being better?
The way I see it, is as a crutch... It makes the game boring, seing everyone use the same things. It is also a complete waste of skill points since they usually get nerfed to hell by CCP. Oh, and one last thing: no one will remember you as a good player, ever. People get remembered by using hard to use weapons and kicking ass with them.
So, to all you fotm users out there (I am looking at you aim assisted duvolle armor tanked gallente logi), why are you doing this?

Because they want to win and will use anything that gives them an advantage .. sadly CCP can;t balance things and keep ending up making things OP and therefore creating new FoTM's .. if they could balance things in a rock paper scissors way then the game would be fine but they just don;t have the ability to do something like that
That is the kind of answer I was looking for. You also expose the source of the problem: CCP is too good at breaking stuff

Other than the Flay I don't think any of my gear is FOTM. Scr is definitely going to lose some popularity due to the RR and CR coming out.
To answer thread, I think people spec FOTM to compete, stomp, stroke E-peen, and to maintain a false sense of fun. Although a very few spec FOTM before it was even FOTM.
