Since being angry about Lag in PC has given me nothing apart from a very unpleasant headache I decided to try to be constructive about the issue, in this thread I will try to keep a discussion going about possible issues, causes, remedies, fixes, reports, findings, testings, and general observations any one can offer so we can hopefully help CCP absolve the issue.
This is what I have so far:
Steps to remedy: - Restart before PC game (Doesn't Help anymore) - switch to wired connection and ensure connection is free and not backed up (Helps, but barely) - Defragment PS3 (People claim it aids in better performance, but it is minimal at best) - Delete Dust514 Save file (Doesn't Help) - Reinstall Dust514 (Doesn't Help) - Do a rain dance in your backyard wearing nothing but a loincloth in the dead of winter (Testing to be completed soon, Results TBD) - Hard reset of PS3 when already deployed in warbarge (Shown to be effective, further testing required)
Potential Causes: - Equipment Spam (Rampant in PC, if you dont spam you dont win) - EVE Support (Have noticed more Lag in games where either side has EVE support) - Explosive Spam (Rampant in PC, if you dont spam you dont win) - Having a mix of EU/NA/Asia server players - Transitioning between city and outside objectives (When in a PC and you continuously move in and out of the city area it will cause game breaking lag coupled with almost immediate framerate drop - the only duplicatable bug that I have personally tested)
Please add anything else you can think of regarding the issue here
As usual please keep it constructive, you know the deal.

i think equipment might be part of the problem because when ever i lag in a pc its generally where the most equipment is placed i.e. one time on a 5 point map with two points inside the city i was inside the city where equipment was spammed the lag was pretty bad then i had to go to an objective outside the city where there was equipment but not as much and the lag seemed to stop. one more thing are OH and AE having PC matches for fun maybe you guys can try to put a limit on the equipment used in them to see if thats a problem.
This is a wonderful Idea and I have thought about doing this before, I do want to do some controlled testing and if AE was up to it we could try to make PC work like private servers; but this requires the participation of every member of the battle so I'll try to get with the other directors to see if we can do something like this.

itsmellslikefish wrote:Ok so i wrote a post about this earlier (kind of). here's the link but id rather discuss what it has to do with your post. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1526022#post1526022TL:DR What i think is the Bubble glitch is one of the reason of lag in pc! People used to mute everyone except for their squad and squad leaders would keep each other un-muted. we can't do that now that the bubble glitch exists The past Dev blog also told us that everyone using voice at the same time was also the cause of PC Lag, fixing the Bubble glitch would reduce PC lag.!
Yes! I remember hearing about this around when uprising 1.0 came out!
This really should be priority fix for CCP
There is no such thing as competitive play when game breaking Lag is a variable in the mix.
Dust could definitely benefit from a comms system akin to MAG. This needs to be prioritized for any FPS game, especially one that is heavily based on team play and tactics

Benjamin Ciscko wrote:Patrick57 wrote:Benjamin Ciscko wrote:It's equipment spam. If you have EVE support try using a Caldari orbital strike on a hot spot that might reduce lag (this strike destroys all equipment in I believe a 100m radius). ooooooooh but then it would destroy friendly equipment, no? Friendly Fire is on, right?? I assume so, I haven't tried this my corp was just discussing this after an insanely laggy PC and we came to the conclusion that it was the Equipment. This is because we hadn't lagged the first battle when there wasn't as much equipment spam but when they brought in experienced ringers the lag greatly increased as well as the number of equipment. This was a recommended solution, we will be attacking again shortly so if we employ this tactic I'll tell you if it worked in a couple of days.
Yes please, post back with the results of your findings. That way CCP can acquire as much information regarding this as possible.

m twiggz wrote:I've found that turning the graphics/textures down helps in PC quite a bit. Occasionally I'll still lag in areas with high volume of equipment and explosions, but not nearly as bad as having all graphics settings on high.
Are you saying the in-game graphics setting? I've heard people say that it doesn't do much but I will try it too
Other people have changed the systems resolution settings down to 480 or 520? Im not sure, but I've tried it and it really destroys how the game looks, despite making it run a lot smoother

Care to elaborate on your thoughts?

Thanks for the bump bud.
Updated some info regarding negating lag in PC battles; the best way is to do a hard restart as soon as you load into the warbarge for the first time, its been tested to be successful almost every time.

Be careful though, if you're not disciplined about getting game plans and squads down 30 minutes before the timer is up you're going to have a hell of a time getting strategy down while waiting for each of your 16 players in the warbarge with 2 minutes left on the clock
