I think it's around 5 millions, at 5 millions you almost have a couple of core skills maxed out, advanced level suit and a proto weapon.

more than i have and im over 30 mill ..if you are expecting dust to become more fun as you level up your mistaken it actually becomes more painful to play |

Yup. What keeps me is the leveling. Unfortunately, at some point you realize just how steep the grind truly is.

I think you have the wrong approach to the 'fun' point. SP doesn't make the game fun.
The game is most fun when you run with people you actually enjoy being around.
Thats what keeps it 'fun' for me. All my SP doesn't do me any good if I can't laugh off the protostomp or the needle- snipe- needle-snipe.

Fun is a factor of every game but here is somehow tied to SP.
You can play with starter fits, but you will not have a lot of fun after a little, SP open to you more ways, i have 20 millions, i have every light weapon and every sidearm at least at level 1, i also have different dropsuits, i can change playstyle every match if i want, that for me is a matter of fun, without a lot of SP that would not be possible.
Of course have more is always good, to unlock better equipment, weapon and suits but i'm talking of a basic level when you are satisfied of your character.

i felt decent at the game when I hit 5 mill sp....
I felt good at the game at 10 mill sp...
at 12.5 mill I feel very versatile at the game, able to do whatever is needed at the time....feels good....fun
I don't care who wins...I'm just here for the killin'...

I've been having fun every SP till 27mil SP now. Although the dust forum fun police like to tell me that i am having fun wrong.

Dual tanking is a sin
BPO's are bad for economy, Respec's are bad for the game. Want to fight about it?

Complex shield extender, basic armor, complex armor repairer, dragonfly scout with a dren shotgun and maybe a dren scrambler pistol. Most fun you will ever have.

How many SP do you need to join a corp and start running battles with a bunch of mates? Because that's how many you need to start enjoying this game.

I think its about 3.5m to go AR Proficiency 5 and ruin some would-be Protostompers matches with a [STARTER FIT]
Remote Explosives on a MLT Scout is even less.

It generally takes between 1-10% more SP than you currently have.

Silly answer - 30+ mil SP and enough Isk to run proto all the time and still have hundreds of millions or billions of Isk in the pot.
Serious answer - no set amount of SP. it just depends on whether you like this type of game or not. |

80 Mil ISK works for me, you don't have to have hundreds of millions....

Depends on what you want to do really. My main needed a decent amount of SP to "have fun" as I wanted HAVs and derpships and heavies with HMGs which takes a small investment to even use.
My other character plays with nothing but the freebie gear and I have a lot of fun with that. *shrugs*
