I'm at level 3 with my AR and I am debating maxing this out. At my current level, its hard to tell a discernible difference.
"5% reduction to assault rifle dispersion per level"
I know what the words mean, but I don't know how this translates to in game performance, specifically terminal DPS. Assuming good aim, are more shots actually hitting further out? Are 5% more shots hitting per level? Is there more of a difference at close range or over longer range?
I sometimes get lazerbeam-insta'd from Duvolles at range and I wonder if i'm getting hit with max AR sharpshooter or if i'm just playing a really skilled kb/m player.
tl;dr please explain the specific benefits to maxing this skill. |

My understanding is that it tightens the cone of random bullet spread, essentially your bullets will hit closer to where you're aiming the gun. If you want to save yourself some SP initially, just take it to 4, that level 5 is more for optimization later on.

Thanks, thats basically my game plan for right now. Do you notice an increase in kills at range with the higher levels? |

Helps with hip-fire, does not really help with ADS.

It doesn't actually increase your range, but it will make it so your bullets miss less at longer ranges. If you run AR regularly I'd take it at least to 4.

"sharpshooter"
It is for long range accuracy... Duh. And yes the skill works very well most noticeable at 20m and beyond. Yes you should skill into it. Recomend at least LV3.

Right, I remember reading about that... the skill then seems oddly titled as "sharpshooter" when it gives a boost to hip fire. I'm assuming the reduced spread would also help at range? |

Okay, thanks for the input. There is still some confusion on how much it helps close vs. range. It seems to help both. |

all it does is make your hip-fire aim tighter.
It's useful to a degree but is in no way a priority.
I'm at 30 mil SP and my Assault suit is pretty much completed (if only CCP came out with a Gallente Sidearm) Assault rifle Sharpshooter was the last thing I got to level 5.
Stick with at least level three for the time being then come back later when things are out of the way. |

good advice. Others are saying that it also makes your long range groups tighter. This is why I was confused about this skill because there is conflicting information. In theory it should make all your groups tighter from hip-fire to mid range and through long range. If that is the case, you're applying more terminal DPS and would make it a very good skill. |

It does not only make your HF better. Dispersion also counts for how long you hold the trigger when auto firing while ADS.

The reason why it does not really help with ADS is because ADS is already laser-accurate, recoil is negligible unless you want to empty an entire clip in one-go so it will rarely be noticeable.

So in theory this skill will reduce that. In practice its hard to tell at level 3. |

I noticed quite a bit of difference, at range, when I first skilled the skill.

Well the AR has no dispersion nor recoil for the first 30 rounds. I honestly don't see the point to level it up if all you have to do is stop firing for a sec after you shoot 30 or so bullets.

Yeah, just use Exile, Toxin AR or preferably the Recruit Assault Rifle (more dmg than standard variant). Those are good enough for the job if you stack some damage mods.
