Ahhhh the good Old days of uprising 1.0... Yes... The dark ages... The days where Callogi + Tac ruled. The days where core flaylock and fused grenades were spammed....
They were the most fun days of my scout life. Ahh the scout suit and its speed tanking glory. How I would run directly at the enemy sprint strafing and get in range to shotgun them to death. You may say "You ran directly at them with a scout suit? lolzz"
You are right. I did. And it worked. Why? Because even if I wasn't fully tanked out, I was tanked. But a different sort of tank. The speed tank. It was fun. The most fun I had ever had in my dust career.
But in 1.3 when they added in the stamina change... I grew worried. I talked to a good scout friend of mine and we joked about how this was the first step at nerfing us. But.. Something along with the stamina change came in. We were suddenly... Getting hit more often than before. And I jokingly said "You know... The better this games mechanics get [hit detection] the worse we will become."
We both knew it was true. But I don't think we ever expected what happened in 1.4 when they added in AA and a good hit detection... It... It was the dark ages for us. And it continues...
I just felt like talking about speed tanking. Do you think it should come back? Do you think it will ever be possible again?

I wish it does. They don't realize that they nerfed two of the major strengths of the light suit, which was speed and maneuverability.
Speed doesn't help anymore, and everyone can strafe and turn at the same speed. We've just become watered down assaults with a built in dampener, all at the cost of most of our eHP and losing 4 slots at proto.

I personally like the concept of signature tanking over speed tanking. I was severely against the bunny hop and the "a d a d" strafing which gave people neo dodging abilities.
Also if you can use an ar and shoot and hurt a speeding lav driver, then no reasonable amount of speed will revive your direct frontal speed charging, that was entirely hit detection. I do think speed tanking should be viable granted enough cover for regen/speed tanking to work, but in an open field, I do not think speed tanking alone should be viable. I do agree with increasing scouts speed by larger margins now, but it won't have the same effects you image (again my lav argument). It would mainly be for map coverage than anything else.
Plus I would rather scouts operate something besides assault like or even logi lite.

I speed tanked my Amarr Assault with a Laser Rifle. Was the best, had the most fun in the game in that period where speed tanking was viable. |

Not a lot of people use common sense on the forums.
You touched on everything I was going to and then some.
Of course I would have been more crude, like calling people idiots for wanting to tap dance in an open field and expect to survive. |

Comeback? No way.
Not unless they got rid of aim assist and reverted strafe speeds. That's what really allowed speed tanking to thrive back in the day. The difficulty in aiming at a fast-moving target was actually really thrilling because they could still outmaneuver you.
Good luck trying that now. The second you're spotted you don't even have time to strafe before you're dead.
Let me play you the song of my people!

I was thinking about this too i think people considered those open field situations cheap deaths and that they were 'totally hitting you!' of course But this game is practically nothing but long stretches of open fields?? Always suprises me how people in this game see pretty tame strafing speeds (compared to PC shooters or even some other console ones) as matrix dodging |

I guess it was kinda ridiculous my scout was out maneuvering like 4 guys trying to shoot my while I was in the open back then. But... That's what was fun about it. Honestly it added variety to the game. If it is to be brought back, it would add variety to the "HP UD DA ASS" suits we see now.
But idk.

lol, I had that same experience back in close beta with 3 guys shooting at me, so much for us at any rate.
I honestly think ewar would be the solution, we could get a nosferatu module or equipment which slows down a group of hostiles speed/aiming wise, which allows other scouts to maul the poor bastards. The idea CCP had for brink tankers + logi reps being so strong is due to teamwork, why can't scouts with ewar that slows down suits in an aoe and other scouts (aka piranhas) that feast on the poor souls?
There are a lot of ways ccp can go with the scout

i think they just need to add the back the strafe speeds from b4 i don't understand how a heavy with like 1600 ehp can strafe so well when you used to walk backwards your speed was so slow and thats how shotguns and knives was able to catch up while they are being shot now if u try to run into some one while they are backing up you dont even get close enough to get into optimal range with a shotgun b4 you die right?

The difference with this is that pc shooters had kbm with direct input which meant you can keep up with rapid dodging. Dust kbm has acceleration and lag to try to keep it in line with controllers, kbm still has faster aiming and turning than the ds3 but the ds3 has aim assist. Which makes kbm the superior control method for weapons that don't get aim assit.

Oh yeah, not only due we get a low slot count, we aren't even cpu efficient with our slots, if I recall, when we divide cpu/slots we get a lower % than assaults.

With virtual no recoil assault rifles, and the strong magnetic lock on which is aim assist, speed tanking is just a bad idea. Speed +dampening and maybe you got something as long as you learn to be sneaky, but still bad for when you do get caught.
