Given how little range the shotgun has, would the game benefit if shotguns were turned into sidearm weapons? Currently, shotguns are run almost exclusively by scout suits or scout-like suits (using dampeners on a medium frame) as speed and/or stealth is a requirement for maximizing their potential. But what if most any suit could use them in combination with a longer-range weapon? Rifle/SG combo, sniper/SG combo, etc. Would this help or hurt the game?

CCP, thank you for hotfixing the knives. But please make sure they're at their full potential in 1.7.

I primary with the SMG(M209) and Shotty (STD) once I've closed in.
You sprint slightly faster with your sidearm out anyways.

I'd rather that be a racial variant of a Shotgun as the thread was originally about. Maybe there could be a longer ranged version of this (with ADS of course) for the Caldari?

I LOVED it in beta when I could run my Scout suit with a sniper rifle AND a Swarm launcher. 
I want that option back.
